Cris Colón
Cristóbal Colón (born January 3, 1969) is a Venezuelan former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a shortstop for the Texas Rangers (1992). He was a switch-hitting batter. Colón was born in La Guaira, Vargas State, Venezuela. A nephew of former major league player Chico Carrasquel, Colón was named in honor of Christopher Columbus, by his father. Colón was a career .167 hitter (6-for-36) with one RBI and five runs in 14 games. Shortstop
Shortstop, abbreviated SS, is the baseball positions, baseball or softball fielding position between second base, second and third base, which is considered to be among the Defensive spectrum, most demanding defensive positions. Historically, the position was assigned to defensive specialists who were typically poor at batting and were often placed at the bottom of the Batting order (baseball), batting order. Today, shortstops are often able to hit well and many are placed at the top of the lineup. In baseball, a run is scored when a player advances around first, second and third base and returns safely to home plate, touching the bases in that order, before three outs are recorded and all obligations to reach base safely on batted balls are met or assured. A player may score by hitting a home run or by any combination of plays that puts him safely "on base" (that is, on first, second, or third) as a runner and subsequently brings him home.
