Cretaceous Terrestrial Revolution
The Cretaceous Terrestrial Revolution (abbreviated KTR), also known as the Angiosperm Terrestrial Revolution (ATR) by authors who consider it to have lasted into the Paleogene, describes the intense floral genetic divergence, diversification of flowering plants (angiosperms) and the coevolution of entomophily, pollinating insects (especially bee, anthophilans and lepidopterans), as well as the subsequent faunal evolutionary radiation, radiation of various frugivorous, nectarivorous and insectivorous terrestrial animals then at the lower food web trophic level, levels such as mammals, avialans (early birds and close relatives), squamate reptiles (lizards and snakes) , lissamphibians (especially frogs) and spider web, web-spinning spiders, during the Cretaceous period. The Paleogene Period ( ; also spelled Palaeogene or Palæogene) is a geologic period and system that spans 43 million years from the end of the Cretaceous Period Ma (million years ago) to the beginning of the Neogene Period Ma.
