Crestview High School (Florida)
Crestview High School (also known as CHS) is the only high school in the city of Crestview, Florida. It was founded in 1926, and was part of a racially segregated system, served only white students until 1966, when the students from Carver-Hill, the school for African-Americans, were transferred there. It is the largest high school in the Okaloosa County School District, which serves all of Okaloosa County. The mascot of the school is the bulldog. Athletics The boys' basketball team won a state title in 1985 and in 2019. The cheerleading squad won a state title in 2010. History of Crestview High School The first school in Crestview was a two-story frame building. It opened in 1879 on Highway 85, where the cemetery is today. Crestview is a city in Okaloosa County, Florida, United States. The population was 27,134 at the 2020 census, up from 20,978 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Okaloosa County. With an elevation of above sea level, it is one of the highest points in the state; it receives of rainfall annually, the second-most of any city in the state of Florida, after Fort Walton Beach with 69 inches. Crestview is a principal city of the Fort Walton Beach-Crestview- Destin Metropolitan Statistical Area. Blake Dean (baseball)
Michael Blake Dean (born February 25, 1988) is a former professional baseball player who is currently the head coach of the New Orleans Privateers baseball program. Playing career Dean played collegiately at Louisiana State University (LSU). He was one of LSU's leading hitters and was named MVP of the 2008 SEC baseball tournament. He has also received many other freshman awards, such as 2007 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American; 2007 Freshman All-SEC; 2007 Louisiana Freshman of the Year; SEC Freshman of the Week (May 7, 2007 and April 16, 2007). John Robert Bale (born May 22, 1974) is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher. Bale and his wife, Genevieve, reside in Niceville, Florida, with their daughters, Madison and Olivia, and their son, Zachary. Genevieve's brother is NHL player Vincent LeCavalier. Tom Edward Hammonds (born March 27, 1967) is an American former professional basketball player and National Hot Rod Association drag racer. He was born in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and attended Crestview High School in Crestview, Florida. Hammonds played college basketball at Georgia Institute of Technology, earning Rookie of the Year honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1986. After graduating in 1989, he was selected by the Washington Bullets in the first round (ninth overall) in the 1989 NBA Draft. He played 12 NBA seasons for the Bullets, Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging 5.3 points per game in his career. State Road 85 (SR 85) is a north–south state highway that runs from US 98 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida north to State Route 55 at the Florida/Alabama state line. In its earliest inception, it was just a clayed road over graded sandy soil, and was known early in the twentieth century as the Georgia, Alabama and Florida Highway.
