Crescent City ( Tolowa: ''Taa-’at-dvn''; Yurok: ''Kohpey''; Wiyot: ''Daluwagh'') is the only incorporated city in Del Norte County, California; it is also the county seat. Named for the crescent-shaped stretch of sandy beach south of the city, Crescent City had a total population of 6,673 in the 2020 census, down from 7,643 in the 2010 census. The population includes inmates at Pelican Bay State Prison, also within the city limits, and the former census-designated place Crescent City North annexed to the city. The city is also the site of the Redwood National Park headquarters, as well as the historic Battery Point Light. Due to the richness of the local Pacific Ocean waters and the related catch, and ease of access, Crescent City Harbor serves as home port for numerous commercial fishing vessels. Crescent City is a village in Iroquois and Crescent townships, Iroquois County, Illinois, United States. The population was 615 at the 2010 census. Geography Crescent City is located in central Iroquois County at (40.770448, -87.857823). U.S. Route 24 passes through the center of the village, leading east to Watseka, the county seat, and west to Gilman near Interstate 57. Crescent Mills (formerly, Crescent City and Crescent) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States. Crescent Mills is located southeast of Greenville. The population was 196 at the 2010 census, down from 258 at the 2000 census. History In 1821 Mary A Zubea was born. Four years later Frank Joseph Stampfli was born. When these two became adults they married. Frank Joseph Stampfli was born in Switzerland and immigrated to the United States. He then registered to pioneer out West where the Stampfli family settled in what is known today as Crescent Mills, CA and Indian Valley. In 1867 Mary A Stampfli died and was buried on the Stampfli Ranch creating the family cemetery. A tall headstone marked Mary A. Stampfli 1821-1867 was placed above her grave. Alice Anne LeBaron (b. Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States, May 30, 1953) is a United States composer and harpist. Anne LeBaron holds a B.A. in music from the University of Alabama (1974), an M.A. in music from the State University of New York at Stony Brook (1978), and a doctorate in music from Columbia University (1989), where she studied with Chou Wen-chung and Mario Davidovsky. As a Fulbright Scholar in 1980–81, she studied with Mauricio Kagel and György Ligeti .
