Dale Cregan
On 18 September 2012, two Greater Manchester Police officers, Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone, were killed by Dale Cregan in a gun and grenade ambush while responding to a report of a burglary in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. The incident was the first in the United Kingdom in which two female police officers were killed on duty. Greater Manchester's chief constable Peter Fahy called the attack "cold-blooded murder" and then British prime minister David Cameron described it as a "despicable act...of pure evil". On 12 February 2013, Cregan changed his plea to guilty in relation to the murder of the two police officers. Three months later he admitted to carrying out two separate murders in 2012, which were linked to a gangland feud in Manchester. James Cregan (born 9 March 1946) is an English rock guitarist and bassist, best known for his associations with Family, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel and Rod Stewart. Cregan is a former husband of the singer Linda Lewis and worked with her as a record producer. Éamonn Cregan
Éamonn Cregan (born 21 May 1945) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer, hurler and manager. He is best remembered for his success with Limerick, as a player in the 1970s and then as manager of various club and inter-county teams in the 1980s and 1990s. Cregan was inducted into the GAA Hall of Fame in 2013. Playing career Club Cregan played his club hurling and football with his local club in Claughaun and enjoyed much success. He won his first senior county title with the club in 1968 and added a second three years later in 1971. Cregan won a third and final county medal in 1986. Martin Cregan
Martin Cregan (1788 - 10 December 1870) was an Irish portrait painter. Early life and family Cregan was born in 1788 in County Meath. He was raised by foster parents, called Creggan, in Martinstown, County Meath. He adopted their name, and later changed it to Cregan. While still a child, Cregan was placed in service to the Stewarts of Killymoon, County Tyrone. They recognised his artistic talent, and financed his education at the Dublin Society Schools from around 1804. While at the Schools, Cregan won medals in 1806 and 1807 for drawing. The Stewarts continued to finance his studies in London, where Cregan was a pupil of Martin Archer Shee. He was Shee's first and only pupil. Cregan married Jane Schwertzel in London in 1816. Her father was Henry Schwertzel, from Hesse Cassel and an employee of the British Royal household. The couple had 16 children. MáirÃn Cregan (27 March 1891 – 9 November 1975) was an Irish nationalist who was involved in the 1916 Easter Rising and Irish War of Independence. She later made her name writing for children, as well as writing plays and novels for adults. Early life Mary Ellen Cregan was born on 27 March 1891 in Killorglin, County Kerry to Morgan Cregan and Ellen O'Shea. Her father was a stonemason from Limerick. The family were strong believers in the Gaelic revival movement and Cregan herself learned Irish and performed songs at Gaelic League concerts. Although she went to primary school locally, she went away to secondary school to St. Louis Convent in Carrickmacross, County Monaghan. After finishing school, Cregan became a teacher, working in Goresbridge, County Kilkenny from 1911 to 1914. Ned Cregan
Edmond "Ned" Cregan (25 January 1901 – 23 August 1972) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Limerick senior team. Cregan joined the team during the 1928 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement prior to the start of the 1936 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, three Munster medals and two National Hurling League medals. Cregan was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. Robert Cregan (born 4 November 1988 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish racing driver. He competed in the 2012 GP3 Series season for Ocean Racing Technology. John Cregan (born 21 May 1961) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) and Senator from 1998 to 2011. He is from Dromcolliher, County Limerick. Denis Cregan (born 4 May 1940) is an Irish publican and former Fine Gael party politician from Cork, who served for 17 years as a senator. A former branch vice-president of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union, Cregan was a long-standing member of Cork City Council from 1979 to 2009, and was Lord Mayor of Cork from 1991 to 1992. He had unsuccessfully contested the Cork South-Central constituency at the 1981 and February 1982 general elections. George Cregan (December 11, 1885 – June 30, 1969) was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy. He was a recipient of both the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Biography Cregan enlisted in the United States Navy in 1907 and served for 40 years, serving on board over 30 different vessels. He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award for valor, for his role in the United States occupation of Veracruz when he was a coxswain assigned to the battleship USS ''Florida''. He received the Navy Cross for his participation in the March 1928 salvage operation of the submarine USS S-4 while commanding officer of the tugboat USS ''Sagamore''.
