Crazy Family
''Crazy Family'' is a 1939 Australian radio series by Sumner Locke Elliott for the George Edwards (actor), George Edwards Players. It was about the eccentric Bonnett family. Elliott appeared as a regular cast member in addition to writing episodes. The series was sponsored by Woolworths which was unusual at the time. It appears to have been cancelled by April 1939. The serial was replaced by ''Geoffry Hamlyn Tells'', also sponsored by Woolworths. Premise "Concerns the erratic antics of the Bonnet family. Their peculiar traits of character and their hobbies make living with them even more complicated. Mrs. Bonnet gives music lessons, collects strays cats and proceeds through life in a delightfully vague blur. Her daughter Felicity, in between catching whales, brings home a new fiance practically every week. Sumner Locke Elliott
Sumner Locke Elliott (17 October 191724 June 1991) was an Australian (later American) novelist and playwright. Biography Elliott was born in Sydney to the writer Sumner Locke and the journalist Henry Logan Elliott. His mother died of eclampsia one day after his birth. Elliott was raised by his aunts, who had a fierce custody battle over him, fictionalised in Elliott's autobiographical novel, '' Careful, He Might Hear You''. Elliott was educated at Cranbrook School in Bellevue Hill, Sydney. World War II Elliott became an actor and writer with the Doris Fitton's The Independent Theatre Ltd. He was drafted into the Australian Army in 1942 but was not posted overseas, working as a clerk in Australia. He used those experiences as the inspiration for his controversial play, '' Rusty Bugles''. George Edwards (actor)
George Edwards (born Harold Parks, 11 March 1886 in Kent Town, South Australia; died 28 August 1953) was an Australian actor, comedian, vaudevillian and producer, known as The Man of a Thousand Voices. Biography Edwards was a pioneer of the radio serial in Australia. Prior to that he was a comedian, vaudeville artist, acrobatic dancer and stage performer. The ''Fraser Coast Chronicle'' is an online newspaper serving the Fraser Coast area in Queensland, Australia. It was started as the Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser. History Charles Hardie Buzacott first published the ''Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser'' in Maryborough as a four-page tabloid, in his slab hut in Lennox Street in November 1860. It sold for sixpence and was read from Gayndah in the west and Childers in the north to Gympie in the south. In 1863, Buzacott sold his interests to William Swain Roberts and Joseph Robinson, who set out to "reflect the community's wants and opinions while boldly and distinctly enunciating our own views". As the rough river town turned into a respectable city, its newspaper became a bi-weekly in 1864, a tri-weekly in 1868 and a daily in 1882. ''The Recollections of Geoffry Hamlyn'' (1859) is a novel by British writer Henry Kingsley. In its first edition the novel was published in three volumes comprising 275, 324 and 275 pages respectively. Synopsis The novel is a chronicle of three families — the Buckleys, the Thorntons and the Brentwoods — and covers the period from the 1780s to 1858. The first part of the novel is mainly set in Devon, England, where a marriage proposal is rejected. The proposer decides to leave England and emigrates to Australia with Geoffry Hamlyn, while the other party elopes and falls on bad times. In the second part the Buckley and Thornton families also migrate to Australia where they settle in the Monaro district in New South Wales as pastoralists. The third part of the novel focuses on the next generation of the families in Australia, with some remaining in Australia and some returning to England. Helen Dorothy "Nell" Stirling (nee Mamgron, 22 August 1909 – 10 November 1951) was an Australian radio actor, singer, dancer and radio producer best known for her association with George Edwards in the Sydney radio industry. Biography Stirling was born in Summer Hill, New South Wales to New Zealand-born father Henry James Mamgron, a sharebroker's clerk who was of Danish-German descent and Mary Rose Lawrie. She studied classical dance before joining the Tivoli circuit at the age of sixteen, where she then performed as a soubrette and tap dancer, before joining the Fullers Theatre in the chorus line. In 1932 she started working in radio for George Edwards as his assistant, in his production "The Ghost Train" and eventually became his business and romantic partner.
