Dorset Council (UK)
Dorset Council is the local authority for the non-metropolitan county of Dorset in England. It is a unitary authority, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council. The non-metropolitan county is smaller than the ceremonial county of Dorset, which also includes Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The council was created in 2019 when local government across Dorset was reorganised. The council has been under Liberal Democrat majority control since the 2024 election. It is based at County Hall in Dorchester. Alderholt
Alderholt ( ) is a large village and civil parish in east Dorset, England; situated west of Fordingbridge. The parish includes the hamlets of Crendell and Cripplestyle. The parish had a population of 3,195 at the 2021 census.Table PP002 - Sex, from The village has a Co-op Food convenience store, veterinary clinic and part-time GP surgery. There are three churches in the village: Alderholt Chapel, St James' Church of England, and the Tabernacle Gospel Church. Transport The main road running through the village is the B3078 connecting Alderholt to Fordingbridge and Shaftesbury. Cranborne is a village in Dorset, England. At the 2011 census, the parish had a population of 779, remaining unchanged from 2001. Until 2019 the appropriate electoral ward was called 'Crane'. This ward included Wimborne St. Giles in the west and south to Woodlands. The total population of this ward at the 2011 census was 2,189. After 2019 structural changes to local government in England, Cranborne is part of the Cranborne and Alderholt ward which elects 1 member to Dorset Council. Once a very small, intensely agricultural market town, the village is on chalk downland called Cranborne Chase, part of a large expanse of chalk in southern England which includes the nearby Salisbury Plain and Dorset Downs. 2019 Dorset Council Election
The 2019 Dorset Council election was held on Thursday 2 May 2019 to elect councillors to the new Dorset Council in England. It took place on the same day as other district council elections in the United Kingdom. These were the first elections to the new unitary council, which has come into effect on 1 April 2019. The new unitary authority was created to administer most of the area formerly administered by Dorset County Council, which was previously subdivided into the districts of Weymouth and Portland, West Dorset, North Dorset, Purbeck, and East Dorset. The previous elections in for Dorset County Council took place in 2017, and for the former district councils in 2015 and 2016.
