Craig Scarpelli
Craig Scarpelli (born September 17, 1961) is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who played professionally in the North American Soccer League, United Soccer League and American Soccer League. Playing career Raised in Brick Township, New Jersey, Scarpelli played prep soccer at Brick Township High School, graduating in 1979. Scarpelli attended the University of Tampa where he played on the men's soccer team. In 1980, Scarpelli joined the United States men's national under-20 soccer team as it qualified for the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship. He would play all three of the U.S. games in that tournament. In December 1981, the Chicago Sting selected Scarpelli in the third round of the North American Soccer League draft, but there is no indication that he signed with the Sting. In 1982, he did play for the Georgia Generals in the American Soccer League. He was also drafted by the St. Louis Steamers of the Major Indoor Soccer League, but never entered a first team game. ... 1983 NASL Grand Prix Of Indoor Soccer
The 1983 NASL Grand Prix of Indoor Soccer was an indoor soccer tournament staged by four franchises of the North American Soccer League. Overview The NASL franchises from Fort Lauderdale, Tampa Bay, Montreal, and Tulsa opted to play the Grand Prix in early 1983 as a makeshift indoor season, because for various reasons, the eight other NASL clubs had chosen to forego playing a full 1982–83 NASL indoor season. Three of those eight teams (Chicago, Golden Bay and San Diego) had joined the Major Indoor Soccer League for 1982-83 season, while the remaining five squads chose to sit out winter indoor play completely. The tournament consisted of three weeks of double round-robin play for the purpose of seeding, followed by a Championship weekend at the Forum in Montreal. The Minnesota Strikers were an American soccer team that competed in the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 1984 season and in the Major Indoor Soccer League from 1984 through 1988. The team was based in Minneapolis/ St. Paul metropolitan area and played their outdoor home games at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome and the Met Center for indoor games.
