Craig Hoy
Craig William Hoy is a Scottish Conservative Party politician. He is Chairman of the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party. Hoy also serves as the Scottish Conservatives' Shadow Minister for social care and is a member of the shadow health team and a member of the shadow cabinet. He has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the South Scotland region since the 2021 election. He also stood in East Lothian. He was a member of East Lothian Council, representing the Haddington and Lammermuir ward, having been elected in a by-election in 2019. He is a member of the Scottish Parliament's Public Audit Committee. He is also a member of the UK Board of the Conservative Party. Hoy contested the East Lothian seat in the 2019 United Kingdom general election, where he finished third. Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP; gd, Ball Pàrlamaid na h-Alba, BPA; sco, Memmer o the Scots Pairliament, MSP) is the title given to any one of the 129 individuals elected to serve in the Scottish Parliament. East Lothian (; sco, East Lowden; gd, Lodainn an Ear) is a constituency in Scotland which returns one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. The seat is represented by Kenny MacAskill of the Alba Party who was elected as an SNP MP at the 2019 general election, where he unseated the sitting Labour incumbent, Martin Whitfield with a majority of 3,886 votes. 2019 United Kingdom General Election
The 2019 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 12 December 2019. It resulted in the Conservative Party receiving a landslide majority of 80 seats. The Conservatives made a net gain of 48 seats and won 43.6% of the popular vote – the highest percentage for any party since 1979. Having failed to obtain a majority in the 2017 general election, the Conservative Party had faced prolonged parliamentary deadlock over Brexit while it governed in minority with the support of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). The Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party ( gd, Pàrtaidh Tòraidheach na h-Alba, sco, Scots Tory an Unionist Pairty), often known simply as the Scottish Conservatives and colloquially as the Scottish Tories, is a centre-right political party in Scotland. East Lothian Council is one of the 32 local government councils in Scotland covering the East Lothian area. Since the last boundary changes in 2017, 22 councillors have been elected from 6 wards.
