Coyote J
Coyote Calhoun (sometimes referred to as Coyote J) is a radio disc-jockey known for his 7-12 midnight show in the 1970s at WERC, a Birmingham, Alabama Top 40, and later at CHR Z-102 (WZBQ) and I-95 in the 1980s. For 35 years he has been a successful radio personality in Birmingham while making stops in Nashville (WKDA/KDF), San Diego (KPRI 91X), Denver (KBCO), New Orleans (WQUE-Q93), and Mobile ( WABB-FM). Calhoun has been a night-time/morning drive personality at several Birmingham radio stations and later in his career became known for his syndicated dark wave show, "The Edge". Coyote J was part of the original air staff hired by WKDF, Nashville's progressive rock station, and WRAX (The X) Birmingham's Alternative Rock station. WERC (AM)
WERC (960 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Birmingham, Alabama. It is owned by iHeartMedia and it simulcasts a talk radio format with sister station 105.5 WERC-FM. The studios and offices are in Beacon Ridge Tower on First Avenue South in Birmingham, off Interstate 65. WERC transmits with 5,000 watts. By day, the signal is non-directional, but to protect other stations on 960 AM from interference, at night it uses a directional antenna with a two-tower array. The transmitter is off Arkadelphia Road near Interstate 20 in Birmingham. Programming WERC was the first station in Birmingham to carry an all-talk format. Stunting is a type of publicity stunt in radio broadcasting, where a station—abruptly and often without advance announcement—begins to air content that is seemingly uncharacteristic compared to what is normally played. Stunting is typically used to generate publicity and audience attention for upcoming changes to a station's programming, such as new branding, format, or as a soft launch for a newly-established station. Occasionally, a stunt may be purely intended as publicity or a protest, and not actually result in a major programming change. WZRR (99.5 FM, "Talk 99.5") is a radio station licensed to Birmingham, Alabama. It carries a talk radio format, simulcast with AM sister station WAPI. WZRR is one of several Birmingham-area radio stations owned by Cumulus Media, with radio studios and offices on Goodwin Crest Drive in Homewood. WHHY-FM (101.9 MHz, "Y102") is a radio station licensed to serve Montgomery, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by Cumulus Media. Y102 broadcasts a Top 40 (CHR) music format. The WHHY-FM studios are located on the 3rd floor of The Colonial Financial Center in downtown Montgomery. WTGZ (95.9 FM, "The Tiger") is a commercial radio station in Tuskegee, Alabama, broadcasting to the Auburn, Alabama, area. Until 2007 the station also broadcast to the Montgomery, Alabama, area on 104.9 FM. The Tiger is the area's only modern rock station and is popular with Auburn University students. WQEN (103.7 FM, "103.7 the Q") is a radio station licensed to serve Trussville, Alabama, United States. The station is owned by San Antonio-based iHeartMedia. Mountain was an American hard rock band formed in Long Island, New York, in 1969.
