Courtwood
Courtwood GAA ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coill na Cúirte) is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club, located in the north east corner of County Laois in Ireland. The club is located in the eastern half of Emo parish with a small catchment area south of the village of Ballybrittas and mainly covered by the local school Rath NS. The locality is bordered on one side by County Kildare and by three neighbouring clubs in Laois: Annanough, O'Dempsey's and Emo. At adult level, the club is a football club only, although a period in the 2000s saw Courtwood dabble in the small ball game. Courtwood currently field football teams at senior and junior C. Juvenile football and hurling affairs are catered for by St Pauls Juvenile GAA club, an amalgamation with fellow parishioners, Emo. Laois Junior Football Championships
The Laois Junior Football Championships are the lower-tier Laois Club Football Championships. The Junior A and Junior B Championships use group phases then down to eight-four-two and the Junior C Championship operates similarly to the Senior Championship and Intermediate Championship by going for a straight knockout. Portlaoise are the title holders (2022) defeating Barrowhouse in the Final. Laois All-County Football League
The Laois All-County Football League (ACFL) is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by Laois GAA clubs. There are seven divisions and teams are promoted and relegated according to their league standing each year. Prior to the inception of the All-County Football League, league competitions titled the Senior Football League, Intermediate Football League and Junior Football League were in place. These would have roughly equated to the current top three or four divisions in the ACFL. Emo GAA
Emo GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football club in Emo, County Laois, Ireland. History The club was founded in the 1950s and club colours are white with a red hoop. Famous players past and present include Gabriel Lawlor, Mick Lawlor and Paddy Brophy. Paddy Brophy, Ger Lawlor and Martin Corcorcan were all members of the famous 1986 League winning panel, Paddy playing with a torn hamstring on that marvellous day. Gabriel Lawlor was manager of the first Laois minor team to win an All-Ireland title, starting the great under-age success of the late nineties and early two thousands. Larry Coughlan
Larry Coughlan (1941 in Geashill, County Offaly - 13 September 2009) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for his local club Raheen, Eadestown in Kildare and Courtwood in Laois, as well as at senior level for the Offaly county team from 1960 until 1973. Coughlan had a lengthy career with Offaly, first coming to notice as a sub on the first Offaly team to win the Leinster Senior Football Championship in 1960. He was only 19 at the time. Niall Donoher (born 10 March 1986) is a Gaelic footballer from County Laois. Niall has been playing football since 2002 in the minor and major games playing mostly in the forward position. Danny Luttrell is a former Gaelic football player from County Laois. He played on the Laois senior football team in defence and was a corner back on the Laois senior team beaten in the 1968 Leinster Senior Football Championship final, with his clubmate Tommy Dunne in attack on the same day.
