Court Tavern
The Court Tavern is a long-standing live music venue and bar located in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Home to local and national acts across all genres, including punk, hip-hop, indie, and hardcore, it temporarily stood closed at 124 Church Street between 2019 and 2024. The venue reopened as a 100% vegan restaurant, bar, and live music venue called Veganica and SPACE Lounge at Court Tavern in 2024. History and venue In 1961, Bob Albert Sr. bought the Court Tavern, then at 149 Church Street with a partner. He told a reporter in 1977 that the bar dated to 1902, having operated illegally through the Prohibition era. In 1981, upon being forced to move on the building of a parking deck, the tavern moved across the street to its present location. From 1981 to 2012, the venue, run by Albert Sr. prior to his passing in 1997 alongside his son, Bobby Albert Jr., became a notable location for live music in New Brunswick. The Jesus Lizard
The Jesus Lizard is an American Rock music, rock band formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas by vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison and bassist David Wm. Sims. They relocated to Chicago, Illinois, in 1989, where they found kindred spirits in recording engineer Steve Albini and Touch and Go Records. With the addition of drummer Mac McNeilly, they began performing live and became "a leading noise rock band in the American independent underground music, underground…[who] turned out a series of independent records filled with scathing, disembowelling, guitar-driven pseudo-industrial rock, industrial noise." WRSU-FM (88.7 FM broadcasting, FM) is a non-commercial college radio station serving the Central Jersey, greater Central New Jersey area, broadcasting from the campus of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It is a student and faculty-run radio station. Programming WRSU currently operates mostly on free-form programming. Shows do not have to fit a certain style with DJs creating their own playlists. Genres of music that the station features include indie rock, alternative rock and heavy metal music. The station also broadcasts electronic music, rap/hip-hop, and other diverse genres of music. ''The Daily Targum'' is the official student newspaper of Rutgers University. Founded in 1867, it is the second-oldest collegiate newspaper in the United States. The ''Daily Targum'' is student written and managed, and boasts a circulation of 5,000 in 2017. In its current form, it exists as a bi-fold tabloid-style paper featuring international, national, local, and university news, as well as editorials, columns, comics, classifieds, sports, and other amusements. Henry Rollins
Henry Lawrence Garfield (born February 13, 1961), known professionally as Henry Rollins, is an American singer, writer, spoken word artist, actor, comedian, and presenter. After performing in the short-lived hardcore punk band State of Alert in 1980, Rollins fronted the California hardcore band Black Flag (band), Black Flag from 1981 to 1986. Following the band's breakup, he established the record label and publishing company 2.13.61 to release his spoken word albums, and formed the Rollins Band, which toured with a number of lineups from 1987 to 2003 and in 2006. X was an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles. The original members are vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist-bassist John Doe (musician), John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer D. J. Bonebrake. The band released seven studio albums from 1980 to 1993. After a period of inactivity during the mid-to-late 1990s, X reunited in the early 2000s and continued to tour. NJ Bloodline is an American hardcore punk group from Elizabeth, New Jersey. History 1992–2002 NJ Bloodline was formed in early 1992 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The original lineup consisted of Mario Simoes (guitar), Tony Simoes (drums), Enrique Maseda, aka Wreak Havoc (vocals), Jim Marella (lead guitar) and Jay Crime (bass). NJ Bloodline recorded a self-financed 5 song demo EP in 1993 which was released D.I.Y. on cassette, after which Jim Marella left the group. NJ Bloodline then continued as a 4 piece.
