''Counterplot'' is a 1959 film noir crime film directed by Kurt Neumann and written by Richard Blake. The film stars Forrest Tucker, Allison Hayes, Gerald Milton, Jackie Wayne, Richard Verney and Miguel Ángel Álvarez. The film was released in October 1959, by United Artists. It was the final film directed by the German-born Neumann. Kurt Neumann (director)
Kurt Neumann (5 April 1908 – 21 August 1958) was a German Hollywood film director who specialized in science fiction movies in his later career. Biography Born in Nuremberg, the son of a manufacturer of tin stamps studied music in several German cities, including Berlin. In 1926 he directed his first short movie. Neumann came to the U.S. in the early talkie era, hired to direct German language versions of Hollywood films. Once he mastered English and established himself as technically proficient in filmmaking, Neumann directed such low-budget programmers as ''The Big Cage'' (1932), ''Secret of the Blue Room'' (1933) with Paul Lukas and Gloria Stuart, ''Hold 'Em Navy'' (1936), '' It Happened in New Orleans'' (1936) with child star Bobby Breen, ''Wide Open Faces'' (1937) with Joe E. Raúl Dávila
Raúl Dávila (September 15, 1931 – January 2, 2006) was an actor, who is best remembered in the United States for his role of Hector Santos in the American soap opera ''All My Children''. In his home country of Puerto Rico, he is perhaps better remembered as the titular "Carmelo" of the hit WAPA-TV sitcom, "Carmelo y Punto". Early years Dávila was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he received his primary and secondary education. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico where he studied dramatic arts. He continued his education at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana and then earned his master's degree in Dramatic Arts from the Pasadena Playhouse in California. Crime Film
Crime films, in the broadest sense, is a film genre inspired by and analogous to the crime fiction literary genre. Films of this genre generally involve various aspects of crime and its detection. Stylistically, the genre may overlap and combine with many other genres, such as drama or gangster film, but also include comedy, and, in turn, is divided into many sub-genres, such as mystery, suspense or noir. Screenwriter and scholar Eric R. Williams identified crime film as one of eleven super-genres in his Screenwriters Taxonomy, claiming that all feature-length narrative films can be classified by these super-genres. The other ten super-genres are action, fantasy, horror, romance, science fiction, slice of life, sports, thriller, war and western. Forrest Tucker
Forrest Meredith Tucker (February 12, 1919 – October 25, 1986) was an American actor in both movies and television who appeared in nearly a hundred films. Tucker worked as a vaudeville straight man at the age of fifteen. A mentor provided funds and contacts for a trip to California, where party hostess Cobina Wright persuaded guest Wesley Ruggles to give Tucker a screen test because of Tucker's photogenic good looks, thick wavy hair and height of six feet, five inches. Tucker was a sight reader who needed only one take and his film career started well despite a perception in most Hollywood studios that blond men were not photogenic. He enlisted in the Army during World War II. After twenty years spent mainly in Westerns and action roles, he returned to his roots, showing versatility as a comedic and stage musical actor. Film noir (; ) is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and motivations. The 1940s and 1950s are generally regarded as the "classic period" of American ''film noir''. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key, black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography.
