Counter Terrorism And Transnational Crime
Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (, abbreviated as CTTC) is a specialized branch of the Bangladesh Police formed to tackle terrorism and transnational crime. Deputy Inspector General Md. Asaduzzaman bpm (bar) is the chief of the branch. History Bangladesh Police recommended the formation of a special unit, called Police Bureau of Counter-Terrorism, in August 2011 to the Home Ministry. In September 2013, the Home Ministry sent it to the Ministry of Public Administration. A rise in terror attacks in 2015 increased demand for the unit. On 16 February 2016 Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police was formed with 600 personnel. In March 2017 it carried out a raid in Sitakunda, Chittagong leading to the death of two militants. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (; abbreviated as DMP) is the unit of Bangladesh Police responsible for law enforcement in the metropolis of Dhaka, the national capital and most populous city in Bangladesh. Sitakunda Upazila
Sitakunda ( ''Shitakunḍo,'' ) is an upazila in Chattogram District of Chattogram Division, Bangladesh. It includes one urban settlement, the Sitakunda Town, and 10 unions. Sitakunda is the home of the country's first eco-park, as well as alternative energy projects, specifically wind energy and geothermal power. Sitakunda is one of the oldest sites of human habitation in Bangladesh. During much of its history, it was ruled alternatively by various Buddhist rulers of Myanmar in the east and Muslims rulers of Bengal in the west. Operation Twilight (Bangladesh)
The 2017 South Surma Upazila bombings was a combined police and army raid of a suspected militant hideout in South Surma Upazila, Sylhet, Bangladesh on 25March 2017. During the raid, the militants targeted the Bangladesh Armed Forces who were surrounding the militant occupied compound in Sylhet. There were two suicide bombings which killed four civilians and two police officers and wounded more than 40, some critically. An army lieutenant colonel later died from his injuries. Bombs exploded and gunfire was reported when the military launched Operation Twilight to clear the militant hideout. ISIL claimed responsibility however, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal denied the claims of ISIL and blamed the local Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh for the attacks. 1st Para-Commando Battalion
The Para Commando Brigade () is a special operations force of the Bangladesh Army. This special forces brigade is headquartered at Jalalabad Cantonment, Sylhet. It is composed of two para commando battalions. The involvement of special operations units in Bangladesh Armed Forces was initiated by the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. From 1974, commando units existed in Bangladesh Army under various names, mostly in the form of specialist of jungle warfare and counterinsurgency units. A separate special operations capable unit of the Bangladesh Army was first officially formed on 30 June 1992 as the ''1st Para Commando Battalion'', which is the first modern special force of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. SWAT (Bangladesh)
The Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) () is a tier two police tactical unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) of the Bangladesh Police. They operate under the Special Action Group of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC). The SWAT was formed to recover illegal arms and arrest hardcore terrorists and has a vital role in neutralizing any and all threats. The SWAT has been regularly deployed outside of Dhaka to respond to terrorist incidents. The Bangladesh Police plans to establish counterterrorism and hostage rescue unit similar to Bangladesh SWAT in all of the Metropolitan Police.
