The Council of Ministers of Defense of the CIS () is a working body in the Commonwealth of Independent States responsible for military policy of the CIS. It coordinates military cooperation of the CIS member states, and develops military and defense policy of the CIS. Colonel General Sherali Mirzo () is a Tajik Colonel General who serves as the Minister of Defence since 20 November 2013, succeeding Sherali Khayrulloyev. Biography Early life and military career Mirzo was born in 1967 in the Moskovskiy District (present-day Hamadoni) in the Khatlon Region in the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic. Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a military rank used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general (or colonel general) and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal.
