The Venetian Arena (previously known as the Cotai Arena) is an indoor arena located on the premises of The Venetian Macao, on the Cotai Strip, in Macau, China. It opened in 2007 and has a seating capacity of 14,000. The facility was known as Venetian Arena from 2007 to 2010, and was renamed the Cotai Arena from 2010 until 2024, when it reverted back to its original name. It hosts sporting events such as basketball, tennis and boxing, as well as concerts and internationally-televised awards shows. The Venetian Macao Tennis Showdown, in 2007 was the grand finale of a three-leg Pete Sampras vs Roger Federer Asia exhibition match tour. The previous legs were in Seoul, Korea on November 20, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 22. On November 20, Sampras lost the first of the three exhibition matches in Asia against Roger Federer losing 6–4, 6–3 in Seoul, Korea. Two days later in Kuala Lumpur (The Clash of Times), Sampras again lost to Federer, 7–6(6), 7–6(5). However, Sampras was able to win the last match of the series (The Venetian Macao Tennis Showdown), winning 7–6(6), 6–4. Cotai
Cotai ( zh, t=路氹城, cy=Louhtáhm Sìhng; ) is a piece of land reclamation, reclaimed land on the top of the Seac Pai Bay between Taipa and Coloane islands in Macau that has connected two independent islands since 2005. The name, which is a portmanteau of Coloane and Taipa, can also refer to the island formed by the reclamation. In the second sense, the Special Administrative Region of Macau now consists of the Macau Peninsula, plus Cotai Island, about a mile to the south. Cotai was created to provide Macau with a new gambling and tourism area, since Macau is so densely populated and land is scarce. Many hotels and casinos can now be found on the island.
