Cosmopterigidae
The Cosmopterigidae are a family of insects (cosmet moths) in the order Lepidoptera. These are small moths with narrow wings whose tiny larvae feed internally on the leaves, seeds and stems of their host plants. About 1500 species are described. The taxonomic family is most diverse in the Australian and Pacific region with about 780 species. Several genera formerly included here have been moved to the Agonoxeninae. Taxonomy The family consists of four subfamilies and these genera: *Subfamily Antequerinae Hodges, 1978 *Subfamily Chrysopeleiinae Mosher, 1916 *Subfamily Cosmopteriginae Heinemann & Wocke, 1876 **''Adeana'' **'' Allotalanta'' **'' Anatrachyntis'' **''Anoncia'' **'' Aphanosara'' **'' Archisopha'' **'' Ashibusa'' **'' Axiarcha'' **''Clemmatista'' **'' Coccidiphila'' **'' Cosmopterix'' **'' Diatonica'' **'' Diversivalva'' **'' Dorodoca'' **'' Dromiaulis'' **'' Ecballogonia'' **'' Echinoscelis'' **'' Endograptis'' **'' Eralea'' **'' Eteobalea'' **''Hodge ... Agonoxeninae
The Agonoxeninae are a subfamily of moths. History of classification Formerly, the subfamily only contained four named species – all in the type genus ''Agonoxena'' – if (e.g. following Nielsen ''et al.'', 1996). Such a monotypic arrangement is fairly unusual in modern taxonomy without explicit need due to phylogenetic constraints. Hodges (in Kristensen, 1999) retained the Blastodacnidae in the Agonoxenidae, giving a grouping of some 31 genera, and treating the whole as a subfamily Agonoxeninae of the grass-miner moths (Elachistidae). Collectively, the Agonoxenidae and "Blastodacnidae" are known as palm moths. Head smooth-scaled, rather long and narrow caused by the large and bent scales on the vertex; frons distinctly lighter than vertex, from vertex to neck tufts often a median and/or two lateral white lines; antenna three-quarters to four-fifths of the length of forewing, often slightly serrate distally, and generally with a white, often partly interrupted, anterior line and several white sections in the apical part; labial palpus cylindrical, porrect, apical segment strongly angled upwards and often reaching well above the head. Thorax with or without a median white line, tegulae often lined white inwardly.
