Cortez P Te Pou (born 6 April 2001) is a New Zealand rugby league footballer who plays as a er or for the St George Illawarra Dragons in Australia's NRL Women's Premiership (NRLW). Background Of Māori heritage, Te Pou attended Karamu High School in Hastings and was a Hawkes Bay representative in rugby union. She later moved to New South Wales, Australia, to play rugby league. Career Early career Te Pou played for the North Sydney Bears in the 2022 Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership, before playing for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the same competition the following season. 2023 NRL Women's Season
The 2023 NRLW Premiership was the sixth professional season of Women's rugby league in Australia. As announced in March 2022 by the governing body, the National Rugby League, the number of teams increased from six to ten. The duration of the season was confirmed by the NRL in a media release on 14 February 2023 as nine rounds followed by semi-finals and a Grand Final. Contracted players were paid for a seven-week preparation period prior to the commencement of the competition, plus two weeks leave, for a total of 20 weeks. The contract period for players was, however, twelve months. The announcement also confirmed a rise in the salary cap from $350,000 in 2022 to $900,000 in 2023. Hawke's Bay Rugby Union
The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union (HBRU) is the governing body of rugby union in the Hawke's Bay region of New Zealand. The union is based in Napier. The Hawke's Bay representative team are nicknamed ''The Magpies''. History The Hawke's Bay Rugby Union was founded in 1884. This makes it the oldest Provincial Rugby Union outside the four main centres. Hawke's Bay has a very good Ranfurly Shield record with 24 defences from 1922 to 1927, 21 successful defences between 1966 and 1969 as well as 2 defences in 1934. Hawke's Bay won the shield again, claiming it from Otago, on 1 September 2013. They lost the shield soon after to Counties-Manukau, before winning it back from them in August 2014 and holding it for eleven defences until October 2015.
