Glenurquhart
Glenurquhart or Glen Urquhart ( gd, Gleann Urchadain) is a glen running to the west of the village of Drumnadrochit in the Highland (council area), Highland Council areas of Scotland, council area of Scotland. Location Glenurquhart runs from Loch Ness at Urquhart Bay in the east to Corrimony and beyond in the west. The River Enrick runs along its length, passing through Loch Meiklie. The villages of Balnain and Balbeg, Highland, Balbeg are situated about up the glen. River Enrick
The River Enrick is a river in the Highland region of Scotland. It flows for around 22 km, in a generally northerly and then easterly direction. It rises near Loch na Stac at an elevation of about 490 metres, and falls rapidly until it reaches the floor of Glen Urquhart at elevation about 120 metres. From that point the A831 road closely follows its course. It flows through Loch Meiklie, near Balnain. Corrimony
Corrimony is a small village at the western end of Glenurquhart, in Inverness-shire, in the Highlands of Scotland, now within Highland council area. It is 13 km west of Drumnadrochit, and 32 km south-west of Inverness. Corrimony is famous foMony's Stoneand Corrimony Chambered Cairn. The chambered cairn is part of the Clava group of cairns, dating back 4,000 years. The cairn is surrounded by 11 standing stones. The River Enrick passes Corrimony, before flowing down Glenurquhart to Loch Ness. The river flows over Corrimony Falls, a waterfall to the south of the settlement. An upland area to the south is owned by the RSPB, and run as Corrimony nature reserve. The site covers 1531 ha, and was acquired by the RSPB in 1997. Highland ( gd, A' Ghàidhealtachd, ; sco, Hieland) is a council area in the Scottish Highlands and is the largest local government area in the United Kingdom. It was the 7th most populous council area in Scotland at the 2011 census. It shares borders with the council areas of Aberdeenshire, Argyll and Bute, Moray and Perth and Kinross. Their councils, and those of Angus and Stirling, also have areas of the Scottish Highlands within their administrative boundaries. The Highland area covers most of the mainland and inner-Hebridean parts of the historic counties of Inverness-shire and Ross and Cromarty, all of Caithness, Nairnshire and Sutherland and small parts of Argyll and Moray. Confusingly 'linn' can denote either a fall or the plunge pool or indeed a confined stretch of water. ‘Spout’ is another common word found throughout England and Scotland for particular types of fall though it is usually replaced by ‘sput’ in the formerly Gaelic-speaking parts of the latter.
