Corowa Football Club
The Corowa Football Club, nicknamed the Spiders, was an Australian rules football club based in Corowa, New South Wales, that competed in the Ovens & Murray Football League. The club merged with the Wahgunyah Football Club on several occasions during its early history and as a result was also known as the Border United Football Club from time to time between 1877 and 1947. Then in 1979, both Corowa Football Club and Rutherglen Football Club merged to form Corowa Rutherglen Football Club and have played in the Ovens and Murray Football League ever since. Club history The Corowa Football club was established by a gentleman called Jacob Levin in 1877. Corowa-Rutherglen Football Club
The Corowa-Rutherglen Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Kangaroos'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Corowa in New South Wales. Corowa-Rutherglen's football and netball squads formerly played in the Ovens & Murray Football League. The club is notable for producing many VFL / AFL football players over many years, including John Longmire. History The club was formed in 1979 when the Corowa Spiders and the Rutherglen Redlegs merged to become the "Corowa-Rutherglen Roos". The Ovens & King Football Netball League is a minor country Australian rules football league based in North-Eastern Victoria in the vicinity of Wangaratta and more recently Benalla. History The ''Ovens & King Football League'' was formed on the 13th of June 1903, after a handful of men met at The Bulls Head Hotel in Wangaratta to consider forming a football competition. Corowa Fc Team 1932
Corowa is a town in the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is on the bank of the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, opposite the Victorian town of Wahgunyah. It is the largest town in the Federation Council and was the administrative centre of the former Corowa Shire. The name could have derived from an Aboriginal word referring to the curra pine which yielded gum used by Aboriginal people to fasten the heads of spears to the shafts. Another translation is "rocky river". There are two bridges over the Murray to Wahgunyah in Victoria: the heritage-listed John Foord Bridge and the Federation Bridge (opened on 2 April 2005). Bert Smedley
Ernest Edward "Bert" Smedley (1 April 1905 – 30 November 1979) was an Australian rules footballer who played for St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the late 1920s. Smedley debuted in the 1928 VFL season and finished the year with exactly 50 goals, a tally which included six goal haul in just his second VFL game and a high of eight goals which he kicked in a win over North Melbourne at Arden Street. The Castlemaine recruit was involved in a controversial incident in St Kilda's round 17 encounter with Melbourne. In the dying seconds, a pass from Horrie Mason had found Smedley, who played on and was running into an open goals when the bell rang. Maurie Hunter
Maurice Harold Hunter (5 March 1904 – 31 October 1987) was an Australian rules football player who played in the Victorian Football League (VFL) between 1929 and 1933 for the Richmond Football Club. Football Prior to joining Richmond he played in four premiership teams with St Patrick's of Albury (NSW) between 1923 and 1928. In 1928 he kicked 19 goals in a semi-final against Wangaratta in the Ovens & Murray Football League. He left St Patricks in 1929 for , two years later they made him captain. He was a premiership player in 1932 and the clubs best and fairest in 1933. In 1934 he was captain / coach of Camberwell in the VFA for the first part of the season, until Horrie Mason took over from Hunter after seven games.
