Cornelia Grünes
Cornelia Grünes (born November 10, 1969) is a German former tennis player. Career Grünes began playing tennis at the age of twelve in East Berlin at the SG Friedrichshagen. She initially played in the club for only three months and then trained according to the practice schedules set up by her father. In 1983, she won her first tournament in Dresden. In 1985 and 1986, Grünes became the youth champion of East Germany, and in 1986 she also became the East German champion in adult mixed doubles. Due to an application for emigration filed by her family in August 1986, Grünes was subsequently no longer allowed to compete in championships, but continued to compete in tournaments. Grünes played her first match after moving to West Germany in Mainz in 1988 in the elimination round for the German championship. She lived briefly in Bürstadt in Hesse and then in West Berlin. East Berlin was the ''de facto'' capital city of East Germany from 1949 to 1990. Formally, it was the Soviet sector of Berlin, established in 1945. The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. The designation is typically used at the collegiate level although, beginning in 1957, high school- athletes in football began being honored with All-America status, which then carried-over to other sports like basketball and cross-country running. Giana Gutiérrez (born 30 May 1976) is a Colombian former professional tennis player. Biography Gutiérrez represented Colombia in the Federation Cup from 1992 to 1994, in a total of seven ties. Jessica Fernández (born 19 July 1979) is a former professional tennis player from Mexico. Biography Fernández holds the Mexico Fed Cup record for most ties played, which stands at 29. She started out as a 15-year old in 1995 and on debut played one of the longest Fed Cup matches in history when she defeated Colombia's Carmiña Giraldo, 13–11 in the third set.
