Cornel Milan
Cornel Răzvan Milan (born 8 September 1971) is a Romanian fencer and fencing coach. In 1991, he won the bronze medal at the Junior World Fencing Championships in Istanbul. He competed in the individual and team épée events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. After his retirement as a fencer he graduated from the National Academy for Physical Education and Sports in Bucharest and became a coach at CSA Steaua București, where he trained amongst others world champions Ana Maria Brânză and Anca Măroiu Anca Măroiu (née Băcioiu, born 5 August 1983) is a Romanian épée fencer. The (, ; ), also rendered as epee in English, is the largest and heaviest of the three weapons used in the sport of fencing. The modern derives from the 19th-century , a weapon which itself derives from the French small sword. This contains a detailed contempraneous description of the history and form of the sport. As a thrusting weapon, the is similar to a Foil (fencing), foil (contrasted with a Sabre (fencing), sabre, which is designed for slashing). It has a stiffer blade than a foil. It is triangular in cross-section with a V-shaped groove called a Fuller (weapon), fuller. The also has a larger bell guard designed to protect the user’s arm. In addition to the larger "bell" guard and blade, the weighs more than the foil and sabre which contributes to its reputation of being the slowest form of fencing. Fencing is a combat sport that features sword fighting. It consists of three primary disciplines: Foil (fencing), foil, épée, and Sabre (fencing), sabre (also spelled ''saber''), each with its own blade and set of rules. Popescu is a four-time team European champion, 2013 individual European champion, and two-time team world champion. A five-time Olympic Games, Olympian, Popescu is a two-time individual Olympic silver medalist and 2016 team Olympic champion. Personal life Popescu was born in 1984 in the Rahova district of Bucharest, the second of two children. A very energetic child, she was pushed by her parents towards sport. Anca Măroiu
Anca Măroiu (née Băcioiu, born 5 August 1983) is a Romanian épée fencer. She is double team world champion, in 2010 and 2011, silver medallist at the 2012 European Fencing Championships and three-time European team champion (2006, 2009 and 2011). Career Măroiu first took up gymnastics, but found herself too tall in primary school. She switched to fencing, learning under Nicolae Mihăilescu, then Mircea Alecu. Being of a combative temperament, she chose épée, the weapon of the duel. When she was 14 years old she was selected into the national training centre for juniors within the Petrache Trișcu sports high school in Craiova under Dan Podeanu's coaching. She won the team bronze medal at the 2002 Junior European Championships in Conegliano. At the 2006 European Championships in İzmir she reached the semifinals, where she was defeated by Germany's Claudia Bokel and came away with a bronze medal.
