Corito Varona
Camilo Varona was a figure in Latin American baseball. He played for Cienfuegos of the Cuban League. He managed the Aguascalientes Tigres of the Mexican Center League in 1963, being replaced by Daniel Rios partway through the campaign. In 1964, he led the Tabasco Plataneros of the Mexican Southeast League to a 52-35 record. He later became a scout, discovering Fernando Valenzuela and signing Mike Cuellar, among many others. Cienfuegos (Cuban League Baseball Club)
Cienfuegos, also known as Elefantes de Cienfuegos, was a Cuban baseball team that played in the old Cuban League, which existed from 1878 to 1961. Although representing the south coast city of Cienfuegos, the team played their home games in Havana. Cienfuegos won five Cuban League championships (including in 1960–61, the last season of the league) and two Caribbean Series (in 1956 and 1960). History Cienfuegos first participated in the Cuban Professional League championship during the 1926–27 season. Cienfuegos did not play in the 1927–28 season, contending again from 1928 to 1929 through 1930–31. After eight long years of absence, Cienfuegos reappeared in the 1939–40 tournament. Cuban League
The Cuban League ( Spanish: ''Liga cubana'') was one of the earliest and longest lasting professional baseball leagues outside the United States, operating in Cuba from 1878 to 1961. The schedule usually operated during the winter months, so the league was sometimes known as the "Cuban Winter League." The league generally comprised 3 to 5 teams, and was centered in Havana, though it sometimes included teams from outlying cities such as Matanzas or Santa Clara. Despite its name, it was not the only professional league active in Cuba during that time, nor was it always the most popular; Peter C. Bjarkman argues that amateur play drew far more interest due to its reach outside the capital. Tigres De Aguascalientes
The Mexican Central League was a Minor League Baseball circuit that operated for 19 seasons, from 1960 through 1978, with several clubs based across Mexico.
