Core Sound 20 Mark 3
The Core Sound 20 Mark 3 is an American sailboat that was designed by B&B Yacht Designs for cruising and first built in 2014. The boat is supplied as a series of kits and plans for amateur construction. The Core Sound 20 Mark 3 is a development of the Core Sound 20 and is named for the North Carolinian body of water. Production The design's kits are supplied by B&B Yacht Designs of Bayboro, North Carolina, United States. The kit includes pre-cut wooden components, cut with a CNC machine. There are individual kits for the hull, portals, centerboard and rudder, masts, sails, rigging and lines, epoxy and fiberglass. Additional wood is required for hull stringers and other parts to complete the boat. The mast of a sailing vessel is a tall spar, or arrangement of spars, erected more or less vertically on the centre-line of a ship or boat. Its purposes include carrying sails, spars, and derricks, and giving necessary height to a navigation light, look-out position, signal yard, control position, radio aerial or signal lamp. Large ships have several masts, with the size and configuration depending on the style of ship. Nearly all sailing masts are guyed. Transom (nautical)
A transom is the vertical reinforcement which strengthens the stern of a boat. This flat termination of the stern is typically above the waterline. The term was used as far back as Middle English in the 1300s, having come from Latin ''transversus'' (transverse) via Old French ''traversain'' (set crosswise). The stern of a boat is typically vertical. It can be raked such that there is an overhang above the water, as at the bow. A reverse transom is angled from the waterline forwards. Description The stem is the curved edge stretching from the keel below, up to the gunwale of the boat. Wishbone Boom
A boom, in the context of windsurfing, is a piece of equipment that attaches to the mast, providing structural support for the sail. It completely encircles the sail, and is designed to be gripped, allowing the sailor to control the sail for normal sailing, and also for almost any type of maneuver (such as gybing, tacking, and waterstarting). Early pre RAF/Cambered booms (often called a "''wishbone boom''" due to their symmetrical shape) were tied on to the mast using rope, but newer booms use a clamp mechanism for attachment. Catboat
A catboat (alternate spelling: cat boat) is a sailboat with a single sail on a single mast set well forward in the bow of a very beamy and (usually) shallow draft hull. Typically they are gaff rigged, though Bermuda rig is also used. Most are fitted with a centreboard, although some have a keel. Stitch and glue is a simple boat building method which uses plywood panels temporarily stitched together, typically with wire or zip-ties, and glued together permanently with epoxy resin. This type of construction can eliminate much of the need for frames or ribs. Plywood panels are cut to shape and stitched together to form an accurate hull shape without the need for forms or special tools. This technique is also called "tack and tape", or "stitch and tape". Seams are reinforced with fiberglass tape and thickened epoxy.
