Coral Distaff
The Coral Distaff is a Conditions races, Listed Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Great Britain open to Filly, fillies aged three years only. It is run at Sandown Park Racecourse, Sandown over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in July. It takes place at the same meeting as the Eclipse Stakes. The race was first run in 2003 as the Distaff Stakes. Conditions Races
Conditions races are horse racing, horse races in which the weights carried by the runners are laid down by the conditions attached to the race. Weights are allocated according to the sex of the runners, with female runners carrying less weight than males; the age of the runners, with younger horses receiving weight from older runners to allow for relative maturity, referred to as weight for age; and the quality of the runners, with horses that have won certain values of races giving weight to less successful entrants. Conditions races are distinct from handicap races, for which the weights carried are laid down by an official handicapper to equalise the difference in ability between the runners. In Great Britain, for example, the British Horseracing Authority's rules define a conditions race as being one "which is none of the following; a Handicap Race or a Novice Race, a race restricted to Maiden Horses, or a race governed by Selling or Claiming provisions." Mark Prescott
Sir Mark Prescott, 3rd Baronet (born 1948), is an English race horse trainer with over 2000 winners to his name, including Alpinista, winner of the 2022 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He is based at Heath House Stables, a historic 50-box yard at the bottom of Warren Hill in Newmarket. David Elsworth
David Raymond Cecil Elsworth (born 1939) is a retired horse trainer living in the United Kingdom. He was the trainer of Desert Orchid, 1988 Grand National winner Rhyme 'n' Reason, and 1990 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Barnbrook Again; three horses among several top-class performers for over jumps and on the flat. David Elsworth was the champion national hunt trainer 1987–88. Silvestre De Sousa
Silvestre de Sousa (born 31 December 1980 in São Francisco do Maranhão, Brazil) is a Brazilian flat racing jockey who is based in Britain and was three times champion jockey (2015, 2017, 2018). Background and early career De Sousa was born in São Francisco do Maranhão, Maranhão, the youngest of ten siblings. He moved to São Paulo when he was 17 years old and sat on a racehorse for the first time when he was 18. This came after a chance meeting with a man who worked at the local Cidade Jardim racecourse, who introduced him to Fausto Durso (one of the leading jockeys in São Paulo at the time, later twice champion jockey in Macau). Pat Dobbs (born 1978) is a Group race, Group 1 winning Irish jockey. He is stable jockey for Richard Hannon Jr. Career Dobbs was born and brought up in a non-racing family in County Wexford, Ireland. Andrew Matthews Balding (born 29 December 1972) is a British racehorse trainer based at Park House Stables, Kingsclere, Hampshire. David Probert
David Probert (born 1988) is a Welsh jockey who was joint British flat racing Champion Apprentice in 2008 and all-weather champion jockey in 2021/22. Early life Probert was born in Bargoed, Wales, attended Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, a Welsh language school, and competed in pony racing around Wales. At sixteen, he attended the British Racing School in Newmarket. Riding career After completing a course at the British Racing School, Probert went to work at the yard of trainer Andrew Balding at Kingsclere. John Harry Martin Gosden (born 30 March 1951) is a British Horse trainer, racehorse trainer. William Buick
William Buick (born 22 July 1988) is a Norwegian-born British flat jockey. He shared the champion apprentice jockey title in 2008 with David Probert and won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in 2007 and 2008. Integral (foaled 13 March 2010) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. Unraced as a two-year-old, she was a Group 3 winner at three when finishing in a dead heat for first place in the Atalanta Stakes. In 2014 she won the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot, before scoring her first Group One in her next race, the Falmouth Stakes. She went on to record a second Group One success in the Sun Chariot Stakes. In 2015 she failed to win but finished second in the Sun Chariot Stakes and fourth in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Mahmood Al Zarooni
Mahmood Al Zarooni (born October 16, 1975) is an Emirati horse-racing trainer at the Godolphin horse-racing operation along with Saeed bin Suroor. He was born in Dubai, and became trainer on 24 March 2010, before the Dubai World Cup meeting. His first winner was Calming Influence, who won the Godolphin Mile. On 22 April 2013, the British Horseracing Authority disclosed that 11 horses trained by Mahmood al-Zarooni tested positive for anabolic steroids. He admitted being in breach of the rules of racing. All 11 horses were banned from racing and Mahmood al-Zarooni faced disciplinary charges. On 25 April 2013, he was banned from racing for eight years. In June 2021, Al Zarooni announced his return to racing. His racing licence was returned by the Emirates Racing Authority and he is now based at the Sharjah Equestrian Club.
