Simon Paul Funnell (born 8 August 1974) is an English former professional footballer who played as a forward in the Football League for Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career Funnell was born in 1974 in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, where he attended King's Manor School. He played youth football for Adur Athletic and was an associate schoolboy with Southampton before joining Brighton & Hove Albion as a trainee in 1990. He made his senior debut in May 1992, in the last match of the season that confirmed Brighton's relegation from the Second Division. Copthorne is a village in the Mid Sussex district of West Sussex, England. It lies close to Gatwick Airport, south of London, north of Brighton, and northeast of the county town of Chichester. Nearby towns include Crawley to the southwest and East Grinstead to the east. The Macron Southern Combination Football League is a football league broadly covering the counties of East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and South West London, England. The English football league system, also known as the football pyramid, is a series of interconnected leagues for men's association football clubs in England, with five teams from Wales, one from Guernsey, one from Jersey and one from the Isle of Man also competing.
