Copenhagen Fire Department
The Greater Copenhagen Fire Department ( da, Hovedstadens Beredskab, formerly ) forms the largest municipal fire brigade in Denmark with more than 1000 employees, this includes firefighters, ambulance personnel, administration and service workers, workers in prevention. The Central Fire Station is home to several other organisations, such as (the National Fire Chiefs Association) and a national youth fire organisation. was also planned to move in, but this is yet to be put in effect. History The brigade began as the Copenhagen Royal Fire Brigade () on 9 July 1687 under King Christian V. After the passing of the Copenhagen Fire Act on 18 May 1868, on 1 August 1870 the Copenhagen Fire Brigade became a municipal institution in its own right. Solbjerg Church
Solbjerg Church (Danish: Solbjerg Kirke) is a church in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located at 34 Howitzvej, just north of Frederiksberg Gardens, and is one of 16 churches which have been designated for closure by the Diocese of Copenhagen. History Solbjerg Church was designed by Kristoffer Varming and built from 1907 to 1908. The area was still relatively open at that time. In 1921, the church was joined by a new police station and a courthouse. In 1980, the interior was hit by fire. In 2011, the governing body (''Stiftsrådet'') of the Diocese of Copenhagen listed it as one of 16 churches which were designated for closure. Architecture The church is constructed in red brick. Dragør () is the main town of Dragør Municipality, (Denmark), which includes the village of Store Magleby. Valby
Valby () is one of the 10 official districts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is in the southwestern corner of Copenhagen Municipality, and has a mixture of different types of housing. This includes apartment blocks, terraced housing, areas with single-family houses and allotments, plus the remaining part of the old Valby village, around which the district has formed, intermingled with past and present industrial sites. Hvidovre
Hvidovre is the main town in Hvidovre Municipality, Denmark. The town, a suburb of Copenhagen, is about 10 km southwest of the capital's center. It is the 2nd biggest suburb of Copenhagen, only beaten by Frederiksberg. History Hvidovre has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 1929, a 3,500-year-old sword from the Bronze Age was excavated in Hvidovre. A farm, Ovre (Aworthe), was located in the area in about 1170 when Esbern Snare gave it to Sorø Abbey that later passed it on to Bishop Absalon. A church was built during the Romanesque period. The name Hvidovre, meaning White Ovre, refers to the colour of the church, which was built in white chalk, as opposed to the one in Rødovre, Red Ovre, which was built in red brick. Glostrup
Glostrup is a Danish town in Region Hovedstaden, forming one of the western suburbs of Copenhagen. It is the administrative seat of Glostrup Municipality, with an estimated population of 22,357 . During the 20th century Glostrup developed from a small railroad town into a modern middle class suburb. The population reached a peak during the 1970s flight from central Copenhagen, but has since stabilized. Kongens Enghave ("king's meadow"), commonly known as Sydhavnen ("south harbour") or the postal district of 2450 Copenhagen SV (southwest) is a district in southern Copenhagen. Enghavevej
Enghavevej is a major street in the Vesterbro and Kongens Enghave districts of Copenhagen, Denmark. It runs from Vesterbrogade in the north to Sydhavns Plads in the south, linking Kingosgade with Sydhavnsgade and Borgbjergsvej. History 18th and 19th centuries The name Kongens Enghave (The King's Meadow Garden) is known from 1683 and referred to an area used for production of animal feed for the king's horses. The road was created in 1795 when the area was divided into 22 estates and sold. The road continued all the way to Gammel Køge Landevej. The only buildings along the road were the farms Frederiksholm, Larsens Minde, Lises Minde Frederikslund and Wilhelms Minde. In 1871, Frederiksholm was acquired by two brothers and converted into a brickworks. Frederiksholm Brickworks produced many of the bricks that were used in the construction of Vesterbro.
