Coopersville And Marne Railway
The Coopersville and Marne Railway is a non-profit tourist railroad and common carrier in West Michigan. It connects with the Grand Rapids Eastern Railroad in Grand Rapids. The company owns the track, which runs from Walker, Michigan to Coopersville, Michigan in Kent and Ottawa counties, approx 14 miles. It runs passenger excursion trains from Coopersville to Marne and back. Some are theme oriented while others are just train rides. They also service one freight customer, near the eastern end of the line, with cars of lumber Lumber is wood that has been processed into uniform and useful sizes (dimensional lumber), including beams and planks or boards. The EMD SW9 is a model of diesel switcher locomotives built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between November 1950 and December 1953. Additional SW9s were built by General Motors Diesel in London Ontario Canada from December 1950 to March 1953. The EMD NW2 is a , B-B switcher locomotive manufactured by General Motors Electro-Motive Division of La Grange, Illinois. From February 1939 to December 1949, EMD produced 1,145 NW2s: 1,121 for U.S. and 24 for Canadian railroads. Starting in late 1948, the NW2s were manufactured in EMD's Plant #3 in Cleveland, Ohio. GE 45-ton Switcher
The GE 45-ton switcher is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Electric between 1940 and 1956. Equipment The locomotive was equipped with two Cummins diesel engines, each driving a GE 1503 generator which, in turn, drove one of the two GE 733 traction motors, one per truck. In early models, the second axle on each truck was driven with side rods. Later models had chain drives inside the trucks that served the same purpose. A traditional train air brake was optional, but all came with two compressors (one per engine) and a straight-air independent (locomotive) brake.
