Coolah Railway Line
The Coolah railway line was a branch railway line in the Warrumbungle Shire of the Orana Region, located in New South Wales, Australia. It branched east towards Coolah from the Gwabegar railway line at Craboon and ran for a length of . Regular passenger services ran for half a century, from the 1920s through to the 1970s. Since closure in the mid-1980s, the line has remained disused and the infrastructure has degraded. History Construction A railway was first proposed to run from Werris Creek railway station to Wellington railway station, passing through the town of Coolah, however the difficulty of the terrain along the route led to the railway proposal being cancelled. A railway line for the area was next proposed in November 1910, and an investigation carried out in April 1911 although this once again resulted in objection. Mudgee Railway Station
Mudgee railway station is a heritage-listed disused railway station on the Gwabegar railway line in Mudgee, New South Wales, Mudgee, Mid-Western Regional Council, New South Wales, Australia. The 48 Class is a class of diesel locomotives built by AE Goodwin, Auburn for the New South Wales Department of Railways between 1959 and 1970. Once the most ubiquitous locomotive in New South Wales, Australia, it is based on Alco frames and prime movers, using General Electric (later Associated Electrical Industries) electrical equipment. The South Australian Railways 830 and Silverton Rail 48s classes are of a very similar design. AE Goodwin
AE Goodwin was an Australian heavy engineering firm, which produced railway locomotives and rolling stock, as well as roadmaking machinery at its factory in Auburn. History Founded in December 1935 by Arthur Elliott Goodwin, the company was originally based in Lidcombe. In 1946 it relocated to St Marys and in the late 1960s to Auburn. In the mid 1950s it became the Australian licence holder for American Locomotive Company (Alco) products, building over 400 diesel locomotives between December 1955 and November 1972. In 1961 the company was taken over by household appliance manufacturer AG Healing. AE Goodwin collapsed in November 1972. It was purchased from its administrator by Comeng, who completed the outstanding locomotives on order, six 442 class for the Public Transport Commission, one M636 for Hammersley Iron and four M636s for Mount Newman Mining at the Auburn factory before closing it. New South Wales 600/700 Class Railcar
The 600/700 class railcars are a class of diesel multiple unit built by the New South Wales Government Railways. They were built to operate on branch lines from 1949 with low traffic volumes later being transferred to Newcastle and Wollongong to operate suburban services until withdrawn in 1994. However, one 600 class railcar was converted to solar operation for use on the Byron Bay Train service. The upgraded train entered service on 16 December 2017 and is believed to be the world's first solar-powered train. Construction In January 1946, approval was given for the construction of 10 two car sets. It was decided that they would be constructed at the new New South Wales Government Railways' Chullora Railway Workshops. They were built with an aluminium body on a steel frame. The C30T class is an old class of steam locomotives rebuilt from 30 class tank engines by Clyde Engineering and Eveleigh Railway Workshops for the New South Wales Government Railways of Australia. History Following the electrification of the Sydney inner suburban lines from 1926, 77 of the 30 class 4-6-4 tank locomotives were converted to tender type. This was achieved by cutting off the frames at the rear of the cab and removing the side tanks. There was no need to build tenders as there were a number on hand from scrapped locomotives or from locomotives where the original tenders had been replaced, notably 50 class locomotives. The first locomotive to be converted was Engine No. 3088 which was delivered by Clyde Engineering on 22 August 1928. Clyde Engineering was an Australian manufacturer of locomotives, rolling stock, and other industrial products. It was founded in September 1898 by a syndicate of Sydney businessmen buying the Granville factory of timber merchants Hudson Brothers. The company won contracts for railway rolling stock, a sewerage system, trams and agricultural machinery. In 1907 it won its first contract for steam locomotives for the New South Wales Government Railways. By 1923 it had 2,200 employees. After contracting during the depression it became a major supplier of munitions during World War II. The Baldwin Locomotive Works (BLW) was an American manufacturer of railway locomotives from 1825 to 1951. Originally located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it moved to nearby Eddystone, Pennsylvania, Eddystone in the early 20th century. Gulgong Railway Station
Gulgong railway station is a heritage-listed disused railway station on the Gwabegar railway line at Gulgong, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History The Gulgong railway station opened on 14 April 1909 with the extension of the railway from Mudgee to Gulgong. The rail passenger service to Gulgong ceased on 2 December 1985 and freight services connecting Gulgong and Kandos on the Gwabegar line ceased in 1992. The freight-only Sandy Hollow–Gulgong railway line still operates through Gulgong, connecting to a section of the Gwabegar line beyond Gulgong that still handles freight services.
