Conway County Library
The Conway County Library is the public library system of Conway County, Arkansas. The main library is located at 101 West Church Street in downtown Morrilton, Arkansas, the county seat. The library is located in a Classical Revival brick building designed by Thomas Harding and funded in part by a grant from Andrew Carnegie. In 1916 the Pathfinder Club of Morrilton applied for the grant. A lot was purchased, and Morrilton Mayor J. A. Frisby, Night Rainwater, and W. M. Riddick worked with a committee to construct the new library. The construction cost was $7,500, leaving $2,500 to purchase coal and furniture for the building. The building was completed in October 1916 and still serves as the Conway County Library. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The library organization began as a private collection in 1894, and was housed in private residences and vacant commercial buildings prior to the construction of this building. See also ... Morrilton, Arkansas
Morrilton is a city in Conway County, Arkansas, Conway County, Arkansas, United States, less than northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas, Little Rock. The city is the county seat of Conway County. The population was 6,992 at the 2020 United States census. History In 1825 a trading post was established about a mile south of present-day Morrilton on the Arkansas River. This town, later named Lewisburg, Arkansas, Lewisburg, thrived after being incorporated in 1844. In 1871 the Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad built track through present day Morrilton. It was later named Morrilton after the previous landowners E.J. and George H. Morrill. The downtown grew around the Morrills' land and that owned by James M. Moose. Moose Addition Neighborhood Historic District
The Moose Addition Neighborhood Historic District encompasses the oldest residential area of Morrilton, Arkansas. This area was farmland until the railroad was built through the region in the 1880s. Located just south of the railroad and the city's business district, this area was soon built up as a residential area, with most of its development coming between roughly 1925 and 1960. There is a single Queen Anne Victorian, built in 1881, from the earliest days of its development. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 and enlarged in 2015. Its initial listing included properties on Division Street and Moose Street between Valley Street in the north and Brown and Green Streets to the south. It was nearly doubled in size in 2015, expanding north to Church Street and east to St. Joseph Street. Conway County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Created as Arkansas's 11th county on October 20, 1825, Conway County has four incorporated municipalities, including Morrilton, the county seat and most populous city. The county is also the site of numerous unincorporated communities and ghost towns. The county is named for Henry Wharton Conway, a politician from a powerful political family who served as the delegate from the Arkansas Territory to the U.S. Congress from 1823 to 1827. As of the 2010 census, the population was 21,273. The county seat is Morrilton.
