Continuation
In computer science, a continuation is an abstract representation of the control state of a computer program. A continuation implements ( reifies) the program control state, i.e. the continuation is a data structure that represents the computational process at a given point in the process's execution; the created data structure can be accessed by the programming language, instead of being hidden in the runtime environment. Continuations are useful for encoding other control mechanisms in programming languages such as exceptions, generators, coroutines, and so on. The "current continuation" or "continuation of the computation step" is the continuation that, from the perspective of running code, would be derived from the current point in a program's execution. The term ''continuations'' can also be used to refer to first-class continuations, which are constructs that give a programming language the ability to save the execution state at any point and return to that point at a l ...

Continuation (sculpture)
''Continuation'' is an outdoor 2009 granite series of sculptures by Japanese artist Michihiro Kosuge, installed along Portland, Oregon's Transit Mall, in the United States. It is part of the City of Portland and Multnomah County Public Art Collection courtesy of the Regional Arts & Culture Council, which administers the work. Description Michihiro Kosuge's ''Continuation'' (2009) is a series of carved red granite sculptures installed along Southwest 6th Avenue and Southwest Clay Street between Columbia and Clay in the Portland Transit Mall. The five pieces measure x x , x x , x x , x x , x x , respectively. The artist re-used granite from a fountain and sculpture previously installed along the mall. According to the Regional Arts & Culture Council, which administers the work: The sculpture is part of the City of Portland and Multnomah County Public Art Collection courtesy of the Regional Arts & Culture Council. Continuation (album)
''Continuation'' is the debut solo album by American singer Philip Bailey, released in January 1983 on Columbia Records. The album peaked at No. 19 on the US Billboard Top Soul Albums chart, No. 36 on the Dutch Pop Albums chart and No. 31 on the Swedish Pop Albums chart. Critical reception Martin Basch of the Boston Globe claimed "This Is the rare R&B dance album where each cut is outstanding. He added "the album will seduce you with its charm and beat." Ross Bossineau of AllMusic said "Expatriate Earth, Wind & Fire vocalist Philip Bailey stepped out on his own with ''Continuation'', his first solo recording. Here Bailey got to explore some less-cluttered grooves than in EWF, and he also sang in his natural tenor rather than being limited to his falsetto." Phyl Garland of Stereo Review wrote "'Continuation,' Bailey's debut solo album, is not as consistently excellent as some of his previous collaborations. There is a somewhat lower level of musical imagination in the mate ...

Alex Cline
Alex Cline (born January 4, 1956) is an American jazz drummer. Biography Born in Los Angeles, California, Cline began playing drums with his twin brother, guitarist Nels Cline, at the age of 11. Their first band was called Homogenized Goo and included David Hirschman on guitar. Alex Cline began a musical association with woodwind artist Jamil Shabaka in 1976 as "Duo Infinity". In 1977, he became a member of Vinny Golia's group as well as the Julius Hemphill Trio (along with Baikida Carroll), formed the electric improvisational trio Spiral (with brother Nels and synthesizer player and multi-instrumentalist Brian Horner) and began performing solo percussion concerts. In 1979, Alex and Nels Cline, along with bassist Eric von Essen and violinist Jeff Gauthier, formed "Quartet Music", a group that enjoyed continued success in its performances and four recordings over an eleven-year period and was awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council ...

Analytic Continuation
In complex analysis, a branch of mathematics, analytic continuation is a technique to extend the domain of definition of a given analytic function. Analytic continuation often succeeds in defining further values of a function, for example in a new region where the infinite series representation which initially defined the function becomes divergent. The step-wise continuation technique may, however, come up against difficulties. These may have an essentially topological nature, leading to inconsistencies (defining more than one value). They may alternatively have to do with the presence of singularities. The case of several complex variables is rather different, since singularities then need not be isolated points, and its investigation was a major reason for the development of sheaf cohomology. Initial discussion Suppose ''f'' is an analytic function defined on a non-empty open subset ''U'' of the complex plane If ''V'' is a larger open subset of containing ''U'', and ...

Numerical Continuation
Numerical continuation is a method of computing approximate solutions of a system of parameterized nonlinear equations, :F(\mathbf u,\lambda) = 0. The parameter \lambda is usually a real scalar and the ''solution'' \mathbf u is an ''n''-vector. For a fixed parameter value \lambda, F(\cdot,\lambda) maps Euclidean n-space into itself. Often the original mapping F is from a Banach space into itself, and the Euclidean n-space is a finite-dimensional Banach space. A steady state, or fixed point, of a parameterized family of flows or maps are of this form, and by discretizing trajectories of a flow or iterating a map, periodic orbits and heteroclinic orbits can also be posed as a solution of F=0. Other forms In some nonlinear systems, parameters are explicit. In others they are implicit, and the system of nonlinear equations is written :F(\mathbf u) = 0 where \mathbf u is an ''n''-vector, and its image F(\mathbf u) is an ''n-1'' vector. This formulation, without an explicit ...

Continuing Patent Application
Under United States patent law, a continuing patent application is a patent application that follows, and claims priority to, an earlier-filed patent application. A continuing patent application may be one of three types: a continuation, divisional, or continuation-in-part. Although continuation and continuation-in-part applications are generally available in the U.S. only, divisional patent applications are also available in other countries, as such availability is required under Article 4G of the Paris Convention. Early history From 1838 to 1861, inventors could file patent applications on improvements to their inventions. These were published as "additional improvement patents" and were given numbers preceded by "A.I.". About 300 of these patents were issued. Current law Under the law in the U.S., inventors may file several different types of patent applications to cover new improvements to their inventions or to cover different aspects of their inventions. These types of pa ...

Continuation War
The Continuation War, also known as the Second Soviet–Finnish War, was a conflict fought by Finland and Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union during World War II. It began with a Finnish declaration of war on 25 June 1941 and ended on 19 September 1944 with the Moscow Armistice. The Soviet Union and Finland had previously fought the Winter War from 1939 to 1940, which ended with the Soviet failure to conquer Finland and the Moscow Peace Treaty. Numerous reasons have been proposed for the Finnish decision to invade, with regaining territory lost during the Winter War regarded as the most common. Other justifications for the conflict include Finnish President Risto Ryti's vision of a Greater Finland and Commander-in-Chief Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim's desire to annex East Karelia. The following paragraph contains a bundle of cites for the Finnish participation in the siege of Leningrad, which is a commonly debated complex issue in the article (see talk).--> On 22 June 1941 ...

Continuation Car
A continuation car is a replica of a vehicle no longer in production by the original automaker. These cars are built according to the original standards and blueprints, although sometimes the term is also used to refer to vehicles featuring different mechanical parts (a more modern engine, for instance). Continuations of the Ford GT40 and AC Cobra are relatively common, though expensive, due to the manual labour involved in production. The first continuation car was probably the Avanti II.
