Constellation Records (Solar)
Constellation Records was an American record label, label of SOLAR Records, and then MCA Records. History In 1981, Constellation was founded by Dick Griffey, as an attempt to introduce more contemporary acts to Griffey's more traditionally "urban" establishment which was already being distributed through Elektra Records, Elektra/Asylum Records. In 1984, Dick Griffey moved the Constellation label over to MCA Records for distribution, deciding to abandon contemporary music and continue the SOLAR tradition. It was a move that finally brought recognition to the label. Among the acts who shifted to the label were veteran ''Soul Train''/SOLAR first lady Carrie Lucas (who eventually married Griffey) and Klymaxx. Unidisc Music is a Canadian independent record label. The label is known for releasing rare music, that was made between the mid-1960s and late 1980s. Carrie Lucas
Carrie Lucas (born October 1, 1945) is an American R&B singer, born in Carmel, California. In 1976, she was signed to Soul Train Records. Lucas released six studio albums over seven years, with Soul Train and Solar Records. Lucas was married to Soul Train Records and Solar Records founder Dick Griffey, from 1974 until his death in 2010. Her daughter is Carolyn Griffey. Career "I Gotta Keep Dancing" and "Gotta Get Away from Your Love" were the two hit singles from Lucas's first album, '' Simply Carrie'', released in 1977. Collage was a Los Angeles-based music group, best known for their crossover song "Romeo Where's Juliet?". Career Collage's debut album ''Do You Like Our Music?'', released in 1981 by Solar Records, was produced by the Whispers. Their next album ''Get In Touch'' was typified by the change from disco/funk elements found in the first album to boogie-influenced urban music. Jon Robert Gibson (born January 3, 1962) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumental musician, and record producer. Originally a blue-eyed soul singer, he switched from secular music to contemporary Christian music in the late-1980s. Richard Gilbert Griffey (November 16, 1938 – September 24, 2010) was an American record producer and music promoter who founded SOLAR Records, an acronym for "Sound of Los Angeles Records". The label played a major role in developing a funk-oriented blend of disco, R&B and soul music during the 1970s and 1980s.
