Conspicuous Service Medal (New York)
The New York Conspicuous Service Medal is an award of the State of New York given to the New York State Organized Militia. The New York Conspicuous Service Medal is the 2nd highest New York State National Guard military award, after the Medal of Valor. It is awarded to any individual who shall have distinguished themselves by exceptionally meritorious service in a capacity of great responsibility. For each successive award, a silver medal device (shield) will be attached to the suspension ribbon and the service ribbon. The New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (NYS DMNA) is responsible for the state's New York Army National Guard, New York Air National Guard, New York Guard and the New York Naval Militia. It is headed by Adjutant General of New York Major General Raymond F. Shields Jr., appointed on October 1, 2018. with the Governor of New York Kathy Hochul serving as Commander in Chief of the state's militia forces. Awards And Decorations Of The National Guard
Awards and decorations of the National Guard are presented to members of the National Guard (United States) and sometimes to members of the state defense forces in addition to regular United States military decorations. Each of the state governments of the United States maintains a series of military decorations for issuance to members of the National Guard, with such awards presented under the authority of the various state adjutants general. Active or reserve federal forces veterans who subsequently serve in the National Guard wear all federal awards first, then state awards.
