Conservative Middle East Council
The Conservative Middle East Council or CMEC is an organisation which exists to help ensure that Conservative MPs and Peers better understand the Middle East. Its director is former MP Charlotte Leslie who was appointed in July 2017. CMEC organises delegations of MPs and Peers to the region. Delegations have visited Palestine, Israel, Libya, Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Lebanon and Tunisia. CMEC also organises a number of events in the UK. These include talks by experts in the Houses of Parliament, receptions and lectures. Its annual gala lunches have been addressed by Prime Ministers including John Major, David Cameron and Theresa May, and its flagship policy events have involved senior overseas politicians and diplomats such as US Secretary of State John Kerry. Patricia Morris, Baroness Morris Of Bolton
Patricia Morris, Baroness Morris of Bolton, (born 16 January 1953), is a British peer and former Shadow Minister for Women and an Opposition Whip for the Conservative Party. Morris was made a life peer in 2004, and has previously been Vice-Chairman of the Conservatives with responsibility for candidates. She was Chancellor of the University of Bolton. The Council For Arab-British Understanding
The Council for Arab-British Understanding (Caabu), is a not-for-profit organisation that works for a British Middle East policy rooted in support for international law, human rights and civil society. Since it was founded in 1967, Caabu has taken on a strong advocacy, media and educational role to help shape UK foreign policy and public opinion. Caabu carries out a range of events and publications aimed at promoting greater understanding of the Arab world, in particular political issues. Caabu works with politicians, conducting in-depth parliamentary briefings and situation up-dates on the Middle East, in addition to taking politicians to the region. Conservative Muslim Forum
The Conservative Muslim Forum is a group within the British Conservative Party. It aims to increase Conservative Party's knowledge and comprehension of issues and circumstances that have particular relevance to Muslim communities and develop suitable responses. It also seeks to increase support for the Conservative Party within the Muslim community. Anyone who is eligible to vote in British general or local elections regardless of race, colour or creed may become a member of the Conservative Muslim Forum. It will however be necessary for a person applying for membership of the Conservative Muslim Forum to be an existing member of the Conservative Party or apply for such membership simultaneously. Brandon Kenneth Lewis (born 20 June 1971) is a British politician who served as Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor from September to October 2022. He previously served as Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2018 to 2019 and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland from 2020 to 2022. Alistair Burt
Alistair James Hendrie Burt (born 25 May 1955) is a British politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Bedfordshire from 2001 until 2019. He was previously MP for his native Bury North in Greater Manchester from 1983 until 1997. Burt was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State then Minister of State at the Department of Social Security from 1992 to 1997, and Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2010 to 2013. Phillip James Lee (born 28 September 1970) is a British doctor and politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bracknell from 2010 until 2019. A former member of the Conservative Party, which he left in 2019 to join the Liberal Democrats, he unsuccessfully stood for the neighbouring Wokingham constituency in the 2019 general election. Henry Campbell Bellingham, Baron Bellingham, (born 29 March 1955) is a British Conservative politician who sits in the House of Lords and former barrister.
