Conrado Walter Massaguer y Diaz was a Cuban artist, Political satire, political satirist, and Publisher, magazine publisher. He is considered a student of the Art Nouveau. He was the first Caricature, caricaturist in the world to Broadcasting, broadcast his art on television. He was first caricaturist to exhibit on Fifth Avenue. He was the first caricaturist in the world to exhibit his caricatures on wood. He, and his brother Oscar, were the first magazine publishers in the world to use Lithography, photolithographic printing. He created the magazine ''Social (magazine), Social'' with his brother Oscar to showcase Cuban artistic talent. The duo later created the magazine ''Carteles'', which became for a period the most popular magazine in Cuba, which was purchased by Miguel Ángel Quevedo in 1953. Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar (born Rubén Zaldívar; January 16, 1901 – August 6, 1973) was a Cuban military officer and politician who played a dominant role in Cuban politics from his initial rise to power as part of the 1933 Revolt of the Sergeants. He ruled Cuba as a military dictator until his overthrow in the Cuban Revolution in 1959. He served as president of Cuba from 1940 to 1944, and again from 1952 to his 1959 resignation. Raised in humble circumstances, Batista first came to prominence in the Revolt of the Sergeants, which overthrew the provisional government of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes y Quesada. Batista then appointed himself chief of the armed forces, with the rank of colonel, and effectively controlled the five-member "pentarchy" that functioned as the collective head of state.
