Conrad Jupiters Art Prize
The Gold Coast Art Prize is an annual acquisitive exhibition run by the Gold Coast City Art Gallery in the city of the Gold Coast, Queensland, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. One of Australia's oldest Australian Art#Prizes and Awards, art prizes, it began in 1968 as the Gold Coast Art Prize but was known as the Conrad Jupiters Art Prize from 1990 to 2006 and as the Stan and Maureen Duke Gold Coast Prize from 2007 to 2011. It has since reverted to its original name. Gold Coast City Art Gallery
The Gold Coast City Art Gallery was a regional Art museum located in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Opened in 1986, the Gallery was part of HOTA, Home of the Arts (formerly known as the Gold Coast Art Centre) which is funded by the Gold Coast City Council . After 33 years, the Gold Coast City Art Gallery closed in 2018 to prepare for the opening of the new $60.5m HOTA gallery in early 2021. City Collection The Gallery was the home of the renowned City Collection of contemporary and historical artworks documenting the character of the Gold Coast as well as the development of contemporary Australian Art practice. In 2021 the City Collection will move to its new home in the new HOTA Gallery. Megan Walch
Megan Walch (born Tasmania 1967) is a contemporary Australian painter. Biography Walch graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors, 1989 and was the recipient of an Anne and Gordon Samstag Scholarship in 1994. She completed a Master of Fine Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute, California, 1997, attending the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine in the summer of 1996. In 1998 she received a grant of a studio for twelve months in The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation's Space Program in Manhattan. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Australia. Jon Molvig
Helge Jon Molvig (27 May 1923 – 15 May 1970) was an Australian expressionist artist, considered a major developer of 20th-century Australian expressionism, even though his career 'only' lasted 20 years. He was born in the Newcastle, New South Wales suburb of Merewether. Career, influence and reception Molvig won the Archibald Prize in 1966 with a portrait of painter Charles Blackman and portraits of Molvig by artist John Rigby were hung in the Archibald in 1953 and 1959. Andrew Sibley
Andrew John Sibley (9 July 1933 – 3 September 2015) was an English-born Australian artist. Sibley has been the subject of three books and is commonly listed in histories and encyclopedias of Australian art as a significant figurative painter of the mid and late 20th century. Personal history Sibley was born in Adisham, Kent, England, the first child to John Percival and Marguerite Joan Sibley (née Taylor). With his family home bombed in the London Blitz, Sibley was relocated to Sittingbourne, Kent, then moving to Northfleet, Kent. In 1944 Sibley was awarded a scholarship at Gravesend School of Art, where he studied with fellow students including English artist Peter Blake. In 1948, with his parents and two brothers, Sibley emigrated to Australia, where they lived and worked on an orchard in the rural town of Stanthorpe, Queensland. Robert Dickerson
Robert Henry Dickerson (30 March 1924 – 18 October 2015) was an Australian figurative painter and former member of the Antipodeans group of artists. Dickerson is one of Australia's most recognised figurative artists and one of a generation of influential artists who include Ray Crooke, Charles Blackman, Laurence Hope, Margaret Olley and Inge King. Professional artist Dickerson was a self-taught artist who refused to go to art school. His art has been described as angular and high contrast chiaroscuro and executed in a range of materials including paint, pastels, charcoals and other graphic media. The inspiration for his art came from everyday life and he drew on the themes of loneliness, vulnerability and isolation. Basil Hadley
Basil Hadley (1940 in London, England – 2006 in Stepney, Adelaide) was an English Australian printmaker and painter. His works are represented in National and State public galleries around Australia and in various private collections. Biography Basil Hadley studied at the Ealing College of Art in London. He came to Australia in 1965 and studied printmaking at the Prahran College of Advanced Education, Melbourne. From 1975 until his death in October 2006, he resided in Stepney, Adelaide, South Australia with his wife Tanya who died a few months prior to Hadley. Barbie Kjar () (born 1957) is an Australian artist and educator, specialising in printmaking and drawing. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, and the Gold Coast City Art Gallery.
