''Conostylis breviscapa'' is a rhizomatous, tufted perennial, grass-like plant or herb in the family Haemodoraceae and is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. It has flat leaves and yellow, hairy, tubular flowers. Description ''Conostylis breviscapa'' is a tufted, perennial, grass-like plant or herb or multi-stemmed plant forming clumps wide and up to high. The leaves are flat, typically long and wide with feather-like hairs on the edges. The flower stem is up to long, each flower on a pedicel long. The flowers are long and the perianth is yellow with six more or less equal tepals, the inner segments long. There are six stamens and the style is long. Flowering occurs from August to December or January. Robert Brown (21 December 1773 – 10 June 1858) was a Scottish botanist and paleobotanist who made important contributions to botany largely through his pioneering use of the microscope. Commelinales is an order of flowering plants. It comprises five families: Commelinaceae, Haemodoraceae, Hanguanaceae, Philydraceae, and Pontederiaceae. All the families combined contain over 885 species in about 70 genera; the majority of species are in the Commelinaceae. Plants in the order share a number of synapomorphies that tie them together, such as a lack of mycorrhizal associations and tapetal raphides. Estimates differ as to when the Commelinales evolved, but most suggest an origin and diversification sometime during the mid- to late Cretaceous. ''Conostylis'' is a genus of perennial herbs in the Haemodoraceae family, commonly known as cone flowers. All species are endemic to the Southwest Australia, south west of Western Australia. Description They have leathery, strap-like leaves which arise from the base of the plant, sometimes from underground rhizomes. Flowers usually occur in clusters (sometimes singly) on stalks which emerge from the bases of the leaves. Individual flowers have a short stalk with six tepals which are either cream, yellow, orange or purple. The tepals join to form a short tube at the base with six similar stamens attached at the top of the tube. Jerdacuttup is a small town in Western Australia east-south-east of Perth between Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia. At the 2006 census, Jerdacuttup had a population of six. John Forrest explored the area in 1870 and spelt the word as ''Jerdicutup''; the area was later surveyed in 1875 by C Price who recorded the name of the area as ''Jerdicat'' and ''Verdicat''. ''Jerdacuttup'' is an Aboriginal word of unknown meaning. During the 1960s the south-east of Western Australia was opened for agricultural purposes and the town was developed as a supply centre for the region. The government gazetted the townsite in 1966. The style does not contain ovules; these are limited to the region of the gynoecium (female organs of the flower) called the "ovary".
