Connel Ferry railway station is a railway station serving the village of Connel in western Scotland. This station is on the Oban branch of the West Highland Line, originally part of the Callander and Oban Railway, between Oban railway station, Oban and Taynuilt railway station, Taynuilt, sited from Callander railway station, Callander via Glen Ogle. All services are operated by ScotRail, who also manage the station. History The station was opened in either 1880 or 1903, and in its heyday, when it served a branch to Ballachulish railway station, Ballachulish, it had three platforms, a goods yard and a turntable. Later this was reduced to just the single platform, after the branch closed in 1966, as it remains today. Connel
Connel ( Gaelic: ''A' Choingheal'') is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is situated on the southern shore of Loch Etive. The Lusragan Burn flows through the village and into the loch. The most noticeable feature in the village is Connel Bridge, a large cantilever bridge that spans Loch Etive at the Falls of Lora. It was built to carry the Callander and Oban Railway's branch line to Ballachulish that opened in 1903. Amenities There is a non-denominational primary school in the village, called Achaleven Primary School. Other buildings of note include the Falls of Lora Hotel and St. Oran's Church (Church of Scotland). The church is linked with two others. Ballachulish was a railway station at Ballachulish on the southern shore of Loch Leven at East Laroch (south Ballachulish) in Highland. It was the terminus of the Ballachulish branch line that linked to the main line of the Callander and Oban Railway at Connel Ferry. Glen Ogle
Glen Ogle (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Ogail) extends 7 miles north westwards from Lochearnhead to Lix Toll, where it opens into Glen Dochart. The Ogle Burn flows within the steep sides of the glen, from the Lochan Lairig Cheile at the glen's head. The military road, which can be seen from the modern road, was built in 1749 by Major William Caulfeild. It was used by the British Army in its efforts to pacify the Highlands after the Jacobite rising of 1745. Callander was a railway station located in Callander, in the council area of Stirling, Scotland. History The first station at Callander was a terminus opened by the Dunblane, Doune and Callander Railway on 1 July 1858. It was closed on 1 June 1870 when the second station was opened along with the first section of the Callander and Oban Railway, between Callander and Glenoglehead (originally named 'Killin'). The original terminal station of the Dunblane, Doune and Callander Railway become a goods yard. The station underwent expansion in 1882. Closure came on 1 November 1965, when the service between Callander and Dunblane ended as part of the Beeching Axe. The section between Callander and Crianlarich (lower) was closed on 27 September that year following a landslide at Glen Ogle. Taynuilt railway station is a railway station serving the village of Taynuilt in western Scotland. This station is on the Oban branch of the West Highland Line, originally part of the Callander and Oban Railway, between Falls of Cruachan and Connel Ferry, sited from Callander via Glen Ogle. ScotRail manage the station and operate all services. History Taynuilt station opened on 1 July 1880, when the Callander and Oban Railway was extended from Dalmally to Oban. The station is laid out with two platforms, one on either side of a crossing loop. There are two sidings on the south side of the station.
