Conduct Report On Professor Ishinaka
is a 1950 Japanese comedy film directed by Mikio Naruse. It consists of three self-contained episodes, based on stories by Yōjirō Ishizaka. Plot ;Episode 1 "A Story of Buried Gasoline" Professor Ishinaka is a novelist living in a village in Aomori and respected by the villagers for his advice. He is paid a visit by Yuzō, a young man who believes that he and his army comrades buried 460 drums of gasoline in the orchard of local farmer Yamazaki shortly before the end of the war. Ishinaka, Yuzō, Yamazaki and townsman Nakamura start digging, but soon give up and drink sake instead, entertained by Yamazaki's daughter Moyoko with a traditional folk dance. Yuzō later confesses to Moyoko that he only pretended that the drums were buried in her father's orchard because he fell in love with her during his first visit and wanted to meet her again. Mikio Naruse
was a Japanese filmmaker who directed 89 films spanning the period 1930 to 1967. Naruse is known for imbuing his films with a bleak and pessimistic outlook. He made primarily Shoshimin-eiga, shōshimin-eiga ("common people drama") films with female protagonists, portrayed by actresses such as Hideko Takamine, Kinuyo Tanaka, and Setsuko Hara. Because of his focus on family drama and the intersection of traditional and modern Japanese culture, his films have been compared with the works of Yasujirō Ozu. Many of his films in his later career were adaptations of the works of acknowledged Japanese writers. Titled a "major figure of Japan's golden age" and "supremely intelligent dramatist", he remains lesser known than his contemporaries Akira Kurosawa, Kenji Mizoguchi, and Ozu. Shintoho Films
was a Japanese movie studio. It was one of the big six film studios (which also included Daiei Film, Daiei, Nikkatsu, Shochiku, Toei Company, and Toho) during the Cinema of Japan, Golden Age of Japanese cinema. It was founded by defectors from the original Toho company following a bitter strike in 1947. To compete with the other major studios in the horror/supernatural movie field, Shintoho turned out a large group of such films between 1957 and 1960, including a number of period ghost movies and low-budget science fiction films (such as the ''Starman'' (''Super Giant'') series which was designed to compete with rival then-popular characters ''Planet Prince'', ''Invasion of the Neptune Men, Space Chief'' and ''Moonlight Mask'').
