Condition (film)
''Condition'' is a 2011 science fiction film, directed by Andrei Severny (filmmaker), Andrei Severny and produced by Amir Naderi. The film is a meditative psychological drama set in apocalyptic atmosphere. The story is a sensory battle of the two female characters: sound therapist Mary Taggert and her patient, a disturbed young woman named Alaska. The doctor evacuates with her patient, driving a car away from the city to unspecified northern territory towards the border. Having run out of gas, two women are stranded in mysterious rough and rocky wilderness close to the ocean where it becomes a battle for survival and a struggle with the inner wounds and salvation with sound and nature. The psychologically complex and slow narrative of ''Condition'' relies on sequences of abstract images that one could expect to see at a museum or gallery. Andrei Severny (Russian: Андрей Северный; born September 1, 1977) is a contemporary filmmaker, screenwriter, photographer and visual artist. Severny's films include ''Buried Seeds'', ''Inside Risk: Shadows of Medellin'', ''Gravitation: Variation in Time and Space'', ''Condition (film), Condition'', ''Teaching to See'', ''Disparaît, v'' and ''Tom on Mars''. Biography Andrei Severny was born in 1977 in Moscow, Russia and spent his early childhood years in Egypt. He is a grandson of Andrei Severny (astronomer), Andrei Severny, the Soviet astronomer. He moved to New York in 2004. Photography Severny's earliest published work was a series of atmospheric urban stills in Monitor magazine from 2000 to 2005. Amir Naderi (, , born 15 August 1946, in Abadan) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and photographer. He is best known for '' The Runner'' and '' Vegas: Based on a True Story''. Career Amir Naderi grew up in Abadan, a working-class port city in southern Iran. He developed his knowledge of cinema by watching films at the theater where he worked as a boy, reading film criticism, and making relationships with leading film critics. He became interested in photography and cinema at an early age. As a filmmaker, he was inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson's photography of urban experience and everyday life, as well as the aesthetics of Italian neorealist cinema, such as location shooting and nonprofessional actors, looser narrative structures, and a focus on the plight of poor and working-class people.
