Concerto (Roxy Music Album)
''Concerto'' is a live album by Roxy Music. All tracks were recorded during the group's "Manifesto Tour" at the Rainbow Music Hall, Denver, Colorado on April 12, 1979, except for ''Mother of Pearl'' and ''Editions of You'', which were recorded earlier that month at the Oakland Auditorium, Oakland, California. The album was released in 2001; three years after it was previously released as Concert Classics in 1998 (which does not include the final two tracks). It was released again (with the same track listing) under the title ''Ladytron'' on August 19, 2002 on Superior Records. Roxy Music had no input to this album as it is not an official Roxy Music release but released under license. Roxy Music
Roxy Music are an English rock music, rock band formed in 1970 by Bryan Ferry (lead vocals/keyboards/principal songwriter) and Graham Simpson (musician), Graham Simpson (bass). By the time the band recorded their Roxy Music (album), first album in 1972, Ferry and Simpson were joined by Andy Mackay (saxophone/oboe), Phil Manzanera (guitar), Paul Thompson (musician), Paul Thompson (drums) and Brian Eno (synthesizer). Ladytron (song)
"Ladytron" is a song by Bryan Ferry, recorded by his band Roxy Music and appearing on their debut album. The British electronic band Ladytron took their name from this song. The song has distinctive instrumentation, including an oboe solo, liberal use of the mellotron's famous "three violins" tape set, and much processing of the other instruments by Brian Eno via his VCS3 synthesizer and tape echo. The sound in the start of the song was created by Brian Eno, after Bryan Ferry asked him to produce something reminiscent of the Lunar Landing. Lyrically, it presents Ferry as a Casanova-style seducer of women, whilst being simultaneously enraptured by them. Gary Brian Tibbs (born 25 January 1958) is an English bass guitarist and actor. He was best known as a member of Adam and the Ants and for his work with Roxy Music. He appeared alongside Hazel O'Connor in the film '' Breaking Glass'' (1980) as bass guitarist Dave. Life and career Tibbs was born in Northwood, London, England on 25 January 1958. He was a member of Adam and the Ants, and is mentioned by name in the lyrics of the band's UK top ten hit " Ant Rap". At various times he was a member of Zu Zu Sharks, Code Blue, The Believers, The Vibrators and The Fixx. He first played on The Fixx's 2003 album, ''Want That Life''. David Skinner (musician)
Twice as Much was a British musical duo, composed of Dave Skinner (born David Ferguson Skinner, 4 July 1946, London) and Andrew Rose (born Andrew Colin Campbell Rose, 12 March 1946, Edgware, Middlesex), harmony singers who wrote much of their own material. Their only UK Top 40 success as performers was a cover of the Mick Jagger / Keith Richards composition "Sittin' on a Fence" (1966). The Rolling Stones' version of the song, although recorded in December 1965, was not released on a Stones' album in the US until 1967, and not in the UK (where it again emerged as an album track) until 1969. Twice as Much were managed by Andrew Loog Oldham. Songs that were composed by the duo were recorded by Del Shannon, Chris Farlowe and P. P. Arnold. Paul Thompson (musician)
Paul Thompson (born 13 May 1951) is an English drummer, who is best known as a member of the rock band Roxy Music. He is a member of Andy Mackay's project with the Metaphors and joined Lindisfarne in 2013. He was also the drummer for Oi! band Angelic Upstarts and the American alternative rock band Concrete Blonde. Early life and education Thompson was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland. He lived in Jarrow, north-east England from the age of six months and attended West Simonside Infants and Junior School. Career In 1965, Thompson joined The Tyme who played at local youth clubs. His next group was a local band called The Urge which he joined when 17 years old. Phil Manzanera
Phillip Geoffrey Targett-Adams (born 31 January 1951), known professionally as Phil Manzanera, is an English musician, songwriter and record producer. He is the lead guitarist with Roxy Music, and was the lead guitarist with 801 and Quiet Sun. In 2006, Manzanera co-produced David Gilmour's album ''On an Island'', and played in Gilmour's band for tours in Europe and North America. He wrote and presented a series of 14 one-hour radio programmes for station Planet Rock entitled ''The A-Z of Great Guitarists''. Andy Mackay
Andrew Mackay (born 23 July 1946) is an English musician, best known as a founding member (playing oboe and saxophone) of the art rock group Roxy Music. In addition, he has taught music and provided scores for television, while his work as a session musician encompasses some of the most noteworthy and recognisable names in the music business. Bryan Ferry
Bryan Ferry (born 26 September 1945) is an English singer and songwriter. He became known as the frontman of the band Roxy Music and also launched a solo career. His voice has been described as an "elegant, seductive croon". Re-Make/Re-Model
"Re-Make/Re-Model" is a song written by Bryan Ferry that appears as the opening track on Roxy Music's debut album. The recording starts with some brief background ambiance of a cocktail party, before launching into the song. Whilst the basic backing track of guitar, acoustic piano, bass guitar, tenor saxophone and drums is relatively straightforward and traditional in form, other elements of the arrangement are quite bizarre and futuristic: Eno plays continual squalls of atonal oscillator noise using Andy MacKay's VCS3 synthesizer, whilst Ferry's lead vocal style is strikingly distraught and anguished in tone. The lead guitar and saxophone solos in the middle of the song also tend to cacophony. In the song, each instrument is allowed a short solo break in turn; the sax mimics the trumpets from Richard Wagner's opera "the Valkyrie" and the bass guitar solo mimics the riff from the Beatles song "Day Tripper". "Do the Strand" is the first song from English rock band Roxy Music's second album, ''For Your Pleasure''. In contrast to the songs from Roxy Music's eponymous debut album, this song starts suddenly without any instrumental fanfare.
