Compost (band)
Compost was an American jazz fusion band that released two albums for Columbia Records.Allmusic discography/ref> Its members were Bob Moses, Harold Vick, Jumma Santos, Jack Gregg and Jack DeJohnette. The band was formed in 1971 as a cooperative, with the members splitting the proceeds of a contract DeJohnette negotiated with Columbia Records to make four records. De Johnette recalled in a 2011 interview that the name suited the band's makeup as "a potpourri of mixes of things: Jazz, rock, some soul and some free-form things", which resulted in "good compost music". After recording their first album, ''Take off Your Body'', they performed as a group in New York several times, notably as the opening band for Yes on February 19, 1972 at the Academy of Music. Jazz Fusion
Jazz fusion (also known as jazz rock, jazz-rock fusion, or simply fusion) is a popular music genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined jazz harmony and improvisation with rock music, funk, and rhythm and blues. Electric guitars, amplifiers, and keyboards that were popular in rock began to be used by jazz musicians, particularly those who had grown up listening to rock and roll. Jazz fusion arrangements vary in complexity. Some employ groove-based vamps fixed to a single key or a single chord with a simple, repeated melody. Others use elaborate chord progressions, unconventional time signatures, or melodies with counter-melodies. These arrangements, whether simple or complex, typically include improvised sections that can vary in length, much like in other forms of jazz. Palladium (New York City)
The Palladium (originally called the Academy of Music) was a movie theatre, concert hall, and finally a nightclub in New York City. It was located on the south side of East 14th Street, between Irving Place and Third Avenue. Designed by Thomas W. Lamb, it was built in 1927 across the street from the site of the original Academy of Music established by financier Moses H. Grinnell in 1852. Opened as a deluxe movie palace by movie mogul William Fox, founder of the Fox Film, the academy operated as a cinema through the early 1970s. Beginning in the 1960s, it was also utilized as a rock concert venue, particularly following the June 1971 closure of the Fillmore East. It was rechristened the Palladium on September 18, 1976, with the Band live radio broadcast, and continued to serve as a concert hall into the following decade. The Fragile Tour was a concert tour by progressive rock band Yes in promotion of their 1971 album, '' Fragile''. Lasting from 24 September 1971 until 27 March 1972, and including 115 performances, the tour began at the Queen's Hall in Barnstaple, Devon, and ended at the Aquarius Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts— Bill Bruford's last performance with the band before returning for 1991's '' Union''. The tour was Rick Wakeman's first with the band; sources differ as to whether his first live appearance with the band was on 24 September at the Queen's Hall in Barnstaple, or on 30 September—the third tour date—at Leicester's De Montfort Hall. Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968.
