The Communauté urbaine du Grand Reims is the ''communauté urbaine'', an Communes of France#Intercommunality, intercommunal structure, centred on the Communes of France, city of Reims. It is located in the Marne (department), Marne departments of France, department, in the Grand Est regions of France, region, northeastern France. It was created on 1 January 2017 by the merger of the previous ''communauté d'agglomération Reims Métropole'' with the ''communauté de communes, communautés de communes'' Beine-Bourgogne, Champagne Vesle, Nord Champenois, Fismes Ardre et Vesle, Vallée de la Suippe, Rives de la Suippe, Vesle et Coteaux de la Montagne de Reims and 18 other communes. Reims
Reims ( ; ; also spelled Rheims in English) is the most populous city in the French Departments of France, department of Marne (department), Marne, and the List of communes in France with over 20,000 inhabitants, 12th most populous city in France. The city lies northeast of Paris on the Vesle river, a tributary of the Aisne (river), Aisne. Founded by the Gauls, Reims became a major city in the Roman Empire.
