''Commersonia gilva'', commonly known as golden commersonia, is a species of flowering plant in the family Malvaceae and is endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. It is an erect shrub with elliptic to oblong or egg-shaped leaves and yellow flowers. Description ''Commersonia gilva'' is an erect shrub that typically grows to high and wide, its new growth covered with golden, star-shaped hairs. The leaves are elliptic to oblong or egg-shaped, the narrower end towards the base, long and wide on a petiole up to long with egg-shaped stipules about long at the base. The edges of the leaves have irregular serrations, the upper surface is wrinkled and the lower surface is densely covered with golden, star-shaped hairs. The flowers are arranged in groups of 2 to 4 on a peduncle up to long, each flower on a pedicel long with an egg-shaped bract long at the base. West River is a rural locality of the Shire of Ravensthorpe in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. The South Coast Highway passes through the locality from west to east. West River borders the Fitzgerald River National Park to the south and the townsite of Fitzgerald to the west. The West River and the Hamersley River originate in the locality. The Long Creek Nature Reserve as well as an unnamed nature reserve are located in the north of West River. The rosids are members of a large clade (monophyletic group) of flowering plants, containing about 70,000 species, more than a quarter of all angiosperms. The clade is divided into 16 to 20 orders, depending upon circumscription and classification. These orders, in turn, together comprise about 140 families. Fossil rosids are known from the Cretaceous period. Molecular clock estimates indicate that the rosids may have originated in the Aptian or Albian stages of the Cretaceous, between 125 and 99.6 million years ago. Today's broadleaved forests are dominated by rosid species, which in turn help with diversification in many other living lineages. ''Commersonia'' is a genus of twenty-five species of flowering plants in the family Malvaceae. Plants in this genus are shrubs or trees, occurring from Indochina to Australia and have stems, leaves and flowers covered with star-like hairs. The leaves are simple, often with irregularly-toothed edges, the flowers bisexual with five sepals, five petals and five stamens and the fruit a capsule with five valves. The genus underwent a revision in 2011 and some species were separated from ''Commersonia'', others were added from ''Rulingia''.
