Commerce Bank Championship
The Commerce Bank Championship was a golf tournament on the Champions Tour. It started as non-sanctioned event in 1987, before becoming a regular Senior event in 1988. The tournament was played annually in either June or July until 2008. It was last played in East Meadow, New York, at the Red Course at Eisenhower Park. Commerce Bancorp was the last sponsor of the tournament. The purse for the 2008 tournament was US$1,600,000, with $240,000 going to the winner. Gary Player
Gary James Player (born 1 November 1935) is a South African retired professional golfer who is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. During his career, Player won nine major championships on the regular tour and nine major championships on the Champions Tour. At the age of 29, Player won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the first non-American to win all four majors in a career, known as the career Grand Slam. At the time, he was the youngest player to do this, though Jack Nicklaus (26) and Tiger Woods (24) subsequently broke this record. Don Bies (born December 10, 1937) is an American former professional golfer who has won tournaments on the PGA Tour, the Senior PGA Tour (now known as the Champions Tour), and in the Pacific Northwest Section of the PGA of America. Butch Baird
Fred "Butch" Baird (born July 20, 1936) is an American professional golfer. He played on the PGA Tour and the Senior PGA Tour. Early life Baird was born in Chicago, Illinois. He learned the game at the age of 14 from his father. After he graduated from high school he worked in the oil industry for a few years. Professional career In 1959, Baird turned professional. Baird won two official PGA Tour events during his career: the 1961 Waco Turner Open and the 1976 San Antonio Texas Open. George Archer
George William Archer (October 1, 1939 – September 25, 2005) was an American professional golfer who won 13 events on the PGA Tour, including one major championship, the Masters in 1969. Early life Archer was born in San Francisco, California, and raised just south in San Mateo. He grew to tall, and as a boy he dreamed of a basketball career, but took up golf at San Mateo High School after working as a caddy at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club near his home. Raymond Floyd
Raymond Loran Floyd (born September 4, 1942) is an American retired professional golfer who has won numerous tournaments on both the PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour, including four majors and four senior majors. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1989. Early years Floyd was born on September 4, 1942, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and was raised in Fayetteville. Lee Trevino
Lee Buck Trevino (born December 1, 1939) is an American retired professional golfer who is regarded as one of the greatest players in golf history. He was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981. Trevino won six major championships and 29 PGA Tour events over the course of his career. John Bland (golfer)
John Louis Bland (22 September 1945 – 9 May 2023) was a South African professional golfer who won more than thirty professional tournaments around the world. Early life and career Bland was born in Johannesburg, Union of South Africa. Turning professional in 1969, he was a leading player on the Southern African Tour for over twenty years. He spent the northern summers playing on the European Tour, where he won twice. He was a more consistent contender than this tally might suggest, as he finished in the top-20 on the Order of Merit six times. After reaching the age of fifty in 1995, Bland played mainly on the United States-based Champions Tour. Dana Quigley
Dana C. Quigley (born April 14, 1947) is an American professional golfer. Early life Quigley was born in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1969. Professional career In 1971, Quigley turned professional. Quigley's career in regular tournament golf was unremarkable. He worked as a club professional for many years and had 18 tournament victories in local tournaments in New England. His best finish on the PGA Tour was sixth at the 1980 Greater Milwaukee Open. In 1997, Quigley became eligible to play in senior golf tournaments, and he soon became a leading player at this level. Bruce Fleisher
Bruce Lee Fleisher (October 16, 1948 – September 23, 2021) was an American professional golfer. Early years and amateur career Fleisher was born in Union City, Tennessee, and was Jewish. In 1950, the Fleisher family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where Bruce began playing golf with his brothers, Leslie and Jerry. When Bruce was 14, the Fleishers moved to Miami, Florida.
