Comin' Atcha (album)
''Comin' Atcha'' is the fourth studio album by Madeline Bell, released by RCA Records in December 1973. The album was produced, arranged, and recorded with John Paul Jones at his home studio, Dormouse Studios. It was Madeline Bell's first solo album in two years after performing for musical theatre, television shows, studio backing sessions, film themes, and pop group Blue Mink (1969–73). The project was also a major departure in musical direction for John Paul Jones, playing a mixture of funk, jazz, R&B and soul for the recording during the year-long absence from touring Led Zeppelin undertook in late 1973 and throughout 1974. John Paul Jones had previously sessioned for Madeline Bell in 1968, before joining Led Zeppelin. Both Bell and Jones performed the album's title track on BBC2's television programme ''Colour My Soul'' on 6 December 1973. Madeline Bell
Madeline Bell (born July 23, 1942) is an American soul singer, who became famous as a performer in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s with pop group Blue Mink, having arrived from the United States in the gospel show '' Black Nativity'' in 1962, with the vocal group Bradford Singers. Life and career Bell was born in Newark, New Jersey, United States. She worked as a session singer, most notably backing Dusty Springfield and Donna Summer early in her career. Her first major solo hit was a cover version of Dee Dee Warwick's single "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me", which performed better on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 than the original. In 1968, Bell sang background and duet vocals on a number of Serge Gainsbourg songs, including "Comic Strip", "Ford Mustang" and "Bloody Jack". In 1969, she contributed backing vocals on the Rolling Stones song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and she also provided backing vocals on a number of Donovan recordings, notably his 1969 hit single ... Blue Mink
Blue Mink were a British six-piece pop group that existed from 1969 to 1977. Over that period they had six top 20 hit singles on the UK Singles Chart, and released five studio based albums. According to AllMusic: "they have been immortalised on a string of compilation albums, each recounting the string of effervescent hits that established them among Britain's best-loved pop groups of the early 1970s." Career Roger Coulam (keyboards) formed the band in the autumn of 1969, with American-born Madeline Bell (vocalist), Roger Cook (vocalist), Alan Parker (guitarist), Herbie Flowers (bassist), and Barry Morgan (drummer). Most of the songs were written by Cook and Roger Greenaway. Flowers, Morgan and Parker all worked with Coulam at London's Morgan Studios. ''Madeline'' is a media franchise that originated as a series of children's books written and illustrated by Ludwig Bemelmans. The books have been adapted into numerous formats, spawning telefilms, television series and a live action feature film. The stories take place in a Catholic boarding school in Paris. The teacher, named Miss Clavel, is strict but loves the children, cares for them, and is open to their ideas. Most of the media starts with the line "In an old house in Paris that was covered in vines, lived twelve little girls in two straight lines ..." and end with an invocation of a famous phrase used by Ethel Barrymore to rebuff curtain calls: "That's all there is, there isn't any more". The stories often are written entirely in rhyme, include simple themes of daily life, and the playful but harmless mischief of Madeline, which appeal to children and parents alike. Richard Anthony Newman (born 17 March 1943) is an English rock drummer. He was at various times a member of the bands Sounds Incorporated, May Blitz, Three Man Army, T. Rex, and Boxer. He has performed with Little Richard, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, George Harrison, Robert Palmer, Eric Clapton, Donovan, Mick Ronson, Gene Vincent, Crystal Gayle, The Everly Brothers and others. In 1965, Newman played with Sounds Incorporated as one of the acts opening for the Beatles at Shea Stadium in New York City. Morgan Studios (founded as Morgan Sound Studios) was an independent recording studio in Willesden in northwest London. Founded in 1967, the studio was the location for recordings by notable artists and bands such as The Cure, Jethro Tull, the Kinks, Paul McCartney, Yes, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Donovan, Joan Armatrading, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, UFO and many more. John Paul Jones (musician)
John Paul Jones (born John Baldwin; 3 January 1946) is an English musician and record producer who was the bassist and keyboardist for the rock band Led Zeppelin. He was a session musician and Arrangement, arranger when he formed the band with Jimmy Page in 1968. Jones developed a solo career after drummer John Bonham died and Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980.
