Comilla Stadium
Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium (), also known as Comilla Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Comilla, Bangladesh. It served as home venue of football clubs Dhaka Mohammedan and Abahani Limited Dhaka during the 2021–22 Bangladesh Premier League. It is also occasionally used for cricket matches. It is the largest stadium in eastern Bangladesh. The stadium is named after Dhirendranath Datta. The Comilla District Sports Association announced that in the future, floodlights and an electronic scoreboard will be installed in the stadium. Construction work on the second floor of the stadium is expected to begin soon. The pitch and outfield are in very good condition. The stadium has an official capacity of 18,000 people. However, the highest recorded attendance was over 30,000 during a local T20 cup tournament. Renovation In 2016, the Government of Bangladesh appropriated to renovate the stadium. Comilla (), officially spelled Cumilla, is a metropolis on the banks of the Gomti River in eastern Bangladesh. Comilla was one of the cities of ancient Bengal. Dhirendranath Datta
Dhirendranath Datta (2 November 1886 – disappeared 29 March 1971) was a Bengali lawyer and politician from East Bengal who was a member of the 1st Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. He is best known for proposing Bengali for the national language of Pakistan in the Assembly. He was also active in the politics of undivided Bengal in pre-partition India. Early life Datta was born in an Aristocrat Kayastha Family on 2 November 1886 in Ramrail Union, in Brahmanbaria District, Bengal Province (in today's Bangladesh). His father Jagabandhu Datta was a mukhtiyer (lower ranked pleader) who introduced Dhirendranath to the legal profession from an early age.
