Abdul Matin Khasru
Abdul Matin Khasru (12 February 1950 – 14 April 2021) was a Bangladeshi lawyer and politician. He was a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Comilla-5 constituency during 1991–1995, 1996–2001 and 2009–2021. He served in the first Hasina cabinet as Minister of Law and Justice from 1997 until 2001. Personal life Khasru completed his SSC from Madhabpur High School in 1967. He got admitted to Comilla Victoria Government College and completed graduation in 1970. They were four brothers and three sisters of whom he was the eldest. His father served in the Pakistan Army. His son Munem Wasif is a photojournalist who works at Agence Vu photography agency. Khasru was actively involved in politics since his student life. Habib Ullah Khan (31 January 1935 – 7 January 2023) was a Bangladeshi politician and diplomat. He served as the Minister of Information and then as the Minister of Jute under the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) governments in the late 1970s to early 1980s. He was also a former Member of the Jatiya Sangsad representing Comilla-5 (now Brahmanbaria-5). Personal life Khan was born on 31 January 1935 in Nabinagar, Bengal Presidency. His father was Abdus Shakur Khan. Khan was married to Salma Khan, who was a diplomat and served as an ambassador of Bangladesh to Indonesia. She died in July 2022. They were survived by their only daughter, Humana Khan. Mohammad Yunus (4 July 1944 – 27 March 2021) was a politician of Bangladesh Nationalist Party and then MP of Comilla-14 and Comilla-5 constituencies. Birth and early life Yunus was born on 4 July 1944 in Gobinath village of Piryatrapur union in Burichang upazila of Comilla district. Career Yunus was the organizer of the liberation war. He played an active role in all the political activities of the time including the 6-point movement, language movement and participation in the war of independence of Bangladesh. Abdul Kuddus Makhan (1 July 1947 – 10 February 1994) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a member of parliament for Comilla-5. Early life Makhan was born on 1 July 1947 in Brahmanbaria, East Bengal, British India. He studied at Brahmanbaria College and University of Dhaka, Dhaka University. 1991 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 27 February 1991. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) emerged as the largest party in parliament, winning 140 of the 300 directly-elected seats. The BNP formed a government with the support of the Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami, and on 20 March Khaleda Zia was sworn in for her first term as Prime Minister. The elections were described to be free and fair by many international observers, and it played a major role in solidifying Bangladeshi democracy in aftermath of the anti-government protests in late 1980s. 2008 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 29 December 2008. The two main parties in the election were the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Khaleda Zia, and the Bangladesh Awami League Party, led by Sheikh Hasina. The Bangladesh Awami League Party formed a fourteen-party Grand Alliance including Ershad's Jatiya Party, while the BNP formed a four-party alliance which included the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami. The election was originally scheduled for January 2007, but it was postponed by a military-controlled caretaker government for an extended period of time. The elections resulted in a landslide victory for the Awami League-led grand alliance, which won 263 seats out 300.
