Comedy Radio
Radio comedy, or comedic radio programming, is a radio broadcast that may involve variety show, sitcom elements, sketches, and various types of comedy found in other media. It may also include more surreal or fantastic elements, as these can be conveyed on a small budget with just a few sound effects or some simple dialogue. Radio comedy began in the United States in 1930, based on the fact that as most United Kingdom music hall comedians such as Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel progressed to silent films, they moved to Hollywood and fed the radio comedy field. Another British music hall comic, George Formby, stayed in the British movie industry, and in 1940 joined the Entertainments National Service Association to entertain British World War II troops. Bernard Cribbins
Bernard Joseph Cribbins (29 December 1928 – 27 July 2022) was an English actor and singer whose career spanned over seven decades. During the 1960s, Cribbins became known in the UK for his successful novelty records "The Hole in the Ground" and "Right Said Fred" and for his appearances in comedy films including '' Two-Way Stretch'' (1960) and the '' Carry On'' series. His other screen roles include the astronaut Vincent Mountjoy in '' The Mouse on the Moon'' (1963), Albert Perks in '' The Railway Children'' (1970), the barman Felix Forsythe in Alfred Hitchcock's '' Frenzy'' (1972) and the pretentious hotel guest Mr Hutchinson in the '' Fawlty Towers'' episode "The Hotel Inspectors" (1975). Jim Bowen
James Brown Whittaker (born Peter Williams; 20 August 1937 – 14 March 2018), known professionally as Jim Bowen, was an English stand-up comedian, actor and television personality. He was the long-time host of the ITV game show '' Bullseye'', which he presented from its beginning in 1981 through to the end of its original run in 1995. Bowen grew up in Clayton-le-Moors, Lancashire, and went to Accrington Grammar School. In his early adulthood, he became a teacher, and took part in local dramatic groups. He eventually devoted himself to comedy full-time, having been influenced by Ken Dodd, and first appeared on television in '' The Comedians''. This led to other television work during the 1970s. He achieved national attention after becoming host on ''Bullseye'', which was a ratings success throughout the 1980s.
