"Come On Eileen" is a song by the English group Dexys Midnight Runners (credited to Dexys Midnight Runners and the Emerald Express), released in the United Kingdom in June 1982 as a single from their second studio album ''Too-Rye-Ay''. It reached number one in the United States and was their second number one hit in the UK, following 1980's " Geno". The song was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley and was credited to Kevin Rowland, Jim Paterson and Billy Adams, although Rowland later stated that the essence of the tune should be attributed to Kevin Archer. "Come On Eileen" won Best British Single at the 1983 Brit Awards, and in 2015 the song was voted by the British public as the nation's sixth favourite 1980s number one single in a poll for ITV. It was ranked number eighteen on VH1's "100 Greatest Songs of the '80s" and was Britain's best-selling single of 1982. Dexys (known as Dexys Midnight Runners from 1978 to 2011) are an English pop rock band from Birmingham, with soul music, soul influences, who achieved major commercial success in the early to mid- 1980s. They are best known in the UK for their songs "Geno (song), Geno" and "Come On Eileen", both of which reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart, and achieved six other top-20 singles. "Come On Eileen" also topped the US Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and, with extensive airplay on MTV, they are associated with the Second British Invasion. "Geno" is a song by Dexys Midnight Runners, released in 1980 as the lead single from their debut album ''Searching for the Young Soul Rebels''. Written by Kevin Archer and Kevin Rowland, it was the band's second overall single and their first UK number one, staying at the top of the singles chart for two weeks. In Ireland, the song charted at number two. Composition The song is a tribute to soul singer Geno Washington, and performed in approximately the style of Geno Washington's Ram Jam Band. Rowland and Archer began working on the song in early 1979, with Rowland writing lyrics to Archer's music. The song bears resemblance to Zoot Money's Big Roll Band's "One and Only Man" and the Turtles' " Happy Together". The crowd noises during the "Geno! Geno! Bananarama is an English pop group formed in London in 1980. The group, originally a trio, consisted of friends Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey, and Keren Woodward. Fahey left the group in 1988 and was replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan until 1991, when the trio became a duo. Siobhan Fahey
Siobhan Maire Deirdre Fahey (; born 10 September 1958) is an Irish singer whose vocal range is a light contralto. She was a founding member of the British girl group Bananarama, who have had ten top-10 hits including the List of Billboard Hot 100 number ones of 1986, US number one hit single "Venus (Shocking Blue song)#Bananarama version, Venus". She later formed the musical act Shakespears Sister, who had a List of UK Singles Chart number ones of the 1990s, UK number one hit with the 1992 single "Stay (Shakespears Sister song), Stay". Elephant and Castle is an area of South London, England, in the London Borough of Southwark. Catholic guilt is the reported excess guilt felt by Catholics and lapsed Catholics. Guilt is remorse for having committed some offense or wrong, real or imagined. It is related to, although distinguishable from, "shame", in that the former involves an awareness of causing injury to another, while the latter arises from the consciousness of something dishonorable, improper, or ridiculous, done by oneself. One might feel guilty for having hurt someone, and also ashamed of oneself for having done so.
